This episode of the Cryptid Creator Corner was special for my brother Bobby (seen here as Darth Maul, his favorite SW character) because I got to ask @gossettopia.bsky.social about the design of Darth Maul’s lightsaber.

Bobby as Darth Maul and me as High School Jimmy

Before it was Maul’s it was mine! Here’s the first image George Lucas ever saw of a lightsaber that wasn’t like the others.

1. Please read this interview 2. Then come meet me at Comic Con Revolution in Ontario May 16-17! I'll be teaching workshops on how to turn words into pictures in real time! Plus CCR is an amazing show - one of the last great family owned comic cons in all of fandom. Gotta love that.

It was my great honor to draw Barbra and Bryant Dillon of Fanbase Press, not only in gratitude for their sponsorship of the Superfan podcast, and not only for learning how vital they are to the comics community at large, but also for being pure human sunshine. Thanks Dillons!

@gossettopia.bsky.social when you’re interviewing Howard Chaykin and Mark Waid, bring three cameras, plenty of lights and an elite camera and glamour crew; because you’re making comic book history. Thanks to all involved who made it a great day.

A brief Barbenheimer retrospective on Substack and a word on the strikes. Thanks Geek Chic Productions, for having me as a guest.

LOL - many are asking if the new Netflix Monkey King movie is the one I was co-directing in 2016-17. It is not. While the memories of that production are indeed a gift that keeps on giving, and while I continue to work with the great friends I made on that show, this is not the one we were making.
