generic he used to be the "default" pronoun from the victorian times till ~1950s. at the time it wasn't a specifically right wing thing (even Marx used it - 'from each according to HIS ability') but thankfully it's not used anymore. i sure am glad masculine being the default isnt a problem anymore 🙃
