Thanks, yeah it's a really helpful update from Gmail. Hoping more email clients follow suit.

A little extra test and I can see this fix only works for Google emails. If you are using Gmail for a non google account (sometimes referred to as GANGA) then the meta tag gets removed and the work around doesn't apply.

That's great, however it does mean that your prefers-color-scheme: dark media queries will no longer render in some clients that normally support them such as AppleMail. To get those working again you need to reset the color-scheme with CSS :root{ color-scheme:light dark; }

🎉 Great news folks, the good people at Gmail have finally fixed the forced dark mode issue. In both the iOS and Android apps 🎉 They now support setting the color-scheme meta tag prevent the forced dark colors being used <meta name="color-scheme" content="light only" /> #EmailGeeks
A Gmail logo on the left with an inverted dark mode version of the Gmail logo to the right. Both are large M shaped logos that sort of resemble an envelope

Sad news, unfortunately my time at CIO has come to an end. I’m looking at new opportunities doing fun things with email. If you’d like to work together or know of any suitable jobs going please drop me a message. I’m also open to short term gigs while I look for the right opportunity.

It's weird how, the time between me buying this t-shirt and now is about the same as me buying this t-shirt and England winning the world cup. Really struggling to get my head around that.

🎵 "30 year old shirt, never stopped me dreaming" 🎵 I picked this beauty up in Our Price back in 96. It's my lucky shirt, every time I wear it you can pretty much guarantee England will play a game of football. #FIFAWorldCup #ENG

The transphobic hate on TalkTV is dangerous, misinformed, and completely breaches the broadcasting code. But Ofcom has done nothing. So we’re taking Ofcom to court to force them to do their job. Back the legal challenge here: goodlaw.social/0r9k

Wow, what a great line up! Yeah, anyone would be intimidated, and everyone probably is. I did CSS day in 2016 and people seemed to be ok with me talking about email, so they'll LOVE you talking about CSS. Gutted that I can't make it.

Oh and there is a buyer fee too, apparently that's higher! So anyone want some tickets for Nick Cave in Brighton? Face value (£75 each). Catch is you need to download the AXS app too. Then I can transfer them and no extra charge for either of us.

Mark Robbins @goodemailcode.com · 05/06/2026
Can't add a bank account. "Collection contains no element matching the predicate" The help is all in American, so not relevant. Tried another account and it worked, oh wait there's the original account too. Oh there is a fee for selling tickets, ok transactions aren't free but £12 is a bit much.

Mark Robbins @goodemailcode.com · 05/06/2026
Needed to reset my password as it had expired so did that. The app offered a pass key, that didn't work. I have too many tickets so trying to sell a couple. So go to enter bank details for payment. It doesn't recognise a sort code with dashes like they always have, so removed them.

AXS tickets are terrible. I got an email, none of the images loaded and half the links didn't work. Carefully worked out it was maybe legit, but didn't follow the links directly. Need to download an app to get my tickets, so did that. And signed in.

I don't really use facebook anymore but just trying to list a wardrobe on marketplace and it blocked it, asking me for ID. As a side note, anyone want a large wardrobe, collect from Shoreham
Pop up that reads:
Upload your ID. Before we can get you back on Facebook safely, we need to make sure this is your account. You can prove that this account is yours by sending us a photo of your ID.

The 2026 email accessibility report is now live. 99.88% of 376,348 triggered Serious or Critical accessibility issues. Once again, it's disappointing, most of these issues are quick easy fixes. We all need to do better, myself included.

I've been taking a bit of a dive in auto linking in email. It's one of those annoying issues that doesn't have one good fix, there is always some compromise. Hopefully this article will help you find the best (least bad) solutions for you. customer.io/learn/messag... #EmailGeeks

I've been playing around with CSS random() in email. I'm loving the simplicity of the syntax, very intuitive to use, so i made a little fruit machine that creates a random result with every open. Here is the code, works in Safari and AppleMail 26.2+ parcel.io/e/0847bbd7-8... #EmilGeeks

I know what you're thinking. "Hey Mark that's a Commodore PET, that wasn't released until 1977 and didn't have the ability to send email" Yeah, well it looks cooler than a DEC PDP-10 on a t-shirt, stop being so pedantic, it's called creative licence and no one will notice unless you point it out.

Mark Robbins @goodemailcode.com · 31/03/2026
Hey look, I deigned myself a new t-shirt with an email on it. Because I like email.
Mark stood in a sunny garden wearing a cream t-shirt with a faded 1970's style print of a Commodore PET computer. Below is the text Email est. 1971 in a groovy style font.
On the computer screen it says: @SNDMSG

I've been using flex as a progressive enhancement for columns for a while and it works well. But thinking I want to push some things further, let me know any cool tricks you have or any ideas of things I could explore.

Mark Robbins @goodemailcode.com · 30/03/2026
Ok I've done another video. Hey #EmailGeeks did you know over 80% of email clients support using grid and flex. That is true but it's clickbate, it's not quite as exciting or useful as it sounds, but I think there is still potential to do something cool with it. www.linkedin.com/posts/mjrobb...
