Rook isn't in contact with her mother and hates her uncle (her mother's brother who she suspects was abusing/controlling her mother, possibly sexually). She tells herself she's fine not having any family to speak of, but very deep down it's a wound she doesn't know how to handle.

Rook had formal schooling only until she was around 15-16. She is pretty good at holding onto info once she learns it and has always enjoyed reading for pleasure, and in the Wardens you pick up a lot from people from all over. So she knows a lot but her knowledge is more broad than deep.

Rook's birthday is in winter, near the beginning of the year. As a child celebrations were pretty minimal but her mother did make her a special meal/dessert; sweets were rare so it was very exciting for her. As an adult she hasn't really celebrated or thought about her birthday much.
