I'm midway in umineko chapter 3 and wow, nobody tells you how frustrating it is to take Battler's side of facts & logic and then also watch Beatrice tell you these fantastic magical scenes in the form of a cheesy stage play that you absolutely cannot take at face value BECAUSE MAGIC DOESNT EXIST

beatrice is a 3rd party homewrecker who lives for petty drama despite being 1000 years old which proves that she's doing all of this because she's bored as hell

oh okay so in order to believe in magic I must first understand the concept of love

Good things can't happen in umineko. This is a death flag that's waving in the wind right now

she's just like me!!!! i'm also really bad at breathing!!!!!!

Kenji 🐱🧧 (=🝦ᆺ🝦=)✧ @goldenkenji.bsky.social · 06/07/2026

when battler's theme starts playing it's time for him to start being so goated

020

Kenji 🐱🧧 (=🝦ᆺ🝦=)✧ @goldenkenji.bsky.social · 06/07/2026

finding the killer among us in a closed ecosystem might be seen as cliche but it's just so interesting to see things get worse and worse for everybody characters become desperate in a way that no other story really captures since they're physically and emotionally trapped without a clear exit

030

Kenji 🐱🧧 (=🝦ᆺ🝦=)✧ @goldenkenji.bsky.social · 06/07/2026

here I was, getting nice and comfortable with this VN to the point where I was almost bored of nothing happening now the first character deaths are here while i am 30 hours into the story and it's so gruesome, very well done

010

Kenji 🐱🧧 (=🝦ᆺ🝦=)✧ @goldenkenji.bsky.social · 06/07/2026

seeing battler and his cousins having fun at the family gathering while all the aunts & uncles talk about boring adult stuff is a time I never thought I'd want to return to but here we are

030

Kenji 🐱🧧 (=🝦ᆺ🝦=)✧ @goldenkenji.bsky.social · 06/07/2026

the story has done well in making me dislike gohda but there's no way that I want him to straight up die!!! something very bad is happening in this place!!!!!!

umineko is really in it for the long haul, this is the first time that it's shown blood and I'm about 20 hours into reading Even now it's still trying to settle a lurking feeling of dread beneath all the normal events happening in the mansion

020

Kenji 🐱🧧 (=🝦ᆺ🝦=)✧ @goldenkenji.bsky.social · 06/07/2026

natsuhi i owe you an apology. your husband doesn't trust you, your daughter disobeys you, and the ushiromiya family disrespects you with no outlet for all the negativity you face

020

Kenji 🐱🧧 (=🝦ᆺ🝦=)✧ @goldenkenji.bsky.social · 06/07/2026

man the ushiromiya family adults really hate each other

020

020

Kenji 🐱🧧 (=🝦ᆺ🝦=)✧ @goldenkenji.bsky.social · 03/07/2026

as I'm tweeting to bluesky I'm just recalling this one tweet that went "i'm going to keep using twitter instead of bs because it's like playing a game without major conflicts or a final boss" and yeah it's kind of true

020

Kenji 🐱🧧 (=🝦ᆺ🝦=)✧ @goldenkenji.bsky.social · 03/07/2026

part of me is wondering if I should finish heaven's feel first before I really go down the umineko hole since that's all I have left to read in f/sn, but I guess it's not such a bad thing to take a small bite out of all the games that I'd like to play

040

Kenji 🐱🧧 (=🝦ᆺ🝦=)✧ @goldenkenji.bsky.social · 03/07/2026

I do really like how once you've met all the characters & see all of them interact with each other to get a feel for their dynamic as a starting point, you're just hit with the most cryptic riddle known to man as ground for the overarching mystery

020

Kenji 🐱🧧 (=🝦ᆺ🝦=)✧ @goldenkenji.bsky.social · 03/07/2026

overall umineko is good if you consider the big picture but I don't think there's that big of a draw-in from the initial start, it's mostly just been setting the stage slow-burn style and lining up all the pins before it's all knocked down I vow to NOT be filtered by the 20 hour exposition

050

Kenji 🐱🧧 (=🝦ᆺ🝦=)✧ @goldenkenji.bsky.social · 03/07/2026

i ended up modding the steam version of umineko to have the voices & PS3 sprites but I'm wondering if I'm missing out on the soul of the original ryukishi sprites, I really don't know what the best way to play this game is because it seems like there's not a definite way

020

Kenji 🐱🧧 (=🝦ᆺ🝦=)✧ @goldenkenji.bsky.social · 03/07/2026

I took almost an entire evening trying to understand what kinzo's deeper motives are and it all circles back to him going UWOOOOGHGHGH BEATRICE I WANT TO SEE YOU SMILE AGAIN BEFORE I DIE AAAHGGHAH BEAATRICCEEEE BEATRICE I HAVE NO NEED FOR GOLD I JUST NEED YOU BACK RRRGGHHHH BEAAATRRIICCCEEE HGHGHGHG

rudolph has such a shiteating grin even though he's kind of hard on battler him I like how he also gets picked on by his own older siblings and has a :D sprite just like his son. i wonder what's going to end up being wrong with him

020

Kenji 🐱🧧 (=🝦ᆺ🝦=)✧ @goldenkenji.bsky.social · 03/07/2026

george is very smart and very humble and reminds me of what life would be like if i just did what my parents asked me to do and it actually worked. he is very respectable. i wonder what's going to end up being wrong with him

030

Kenji 🐱🧧 (=🝦ᆺ🝦=)✧ @goldenkenji.bsky.social · 03/07/2026

hideyoshi is the cool uncle who married into the family but took on the ushiromiya family name for his wife and son and also gives you spending money. he is very awesome. i wonder what's going to end up being wrong with him

020

Kenji 🐱🧧 (=🝦ᆺ🝦=)✧ @goldenkenji.bsky.social · 03/07/2026

the first interaction that battler has with jessica after 6 years since the last family gathering is him wanting to grab his cousin's tits and she doesn't even seem that bothered by it, it's like a "haha i'd like to see you try" and i'm totally normal about it

usiromiya family: hey so we all don't like each other and this is horribly stressful but let's have an important discussion about what happens when our father dies and how to distribute the inheritance natsuhi: I'M A HUGE BITCH WHO HATES PRODUCTIVE CONVERSATIONS

010

Kenji 🐱🧧 (=🝦ᆺ🝦=)✧ @goldenkenji.bsky.social · 03/07/2026

a great amount of risk for a great miracle to occur is one of the coolest ways that you could write a magical system, this is probably the most interesting thing going on in umineko so far and I haven't even met this beatrice lady yet

010

Kenji 🐱🧧 (=🝦ᆺ🝦=)✧ @goldenkenji.bsky.social · 03/07/2026

so I never grew up with doraemon & allegedly he is widely popular on the other side of the world but every time I see a reference to him I go "does anybody growing up on this side of the world actually like him" and then I am immediately met by an angry mob telling me HE'S THE BIGGEST THING TO EXIST
