Sometimes things are stormy. That's just how life goes. It's okay to have a difficult time, just remember that, like all things, it will pass.

"I saw this and thought of you," is such a simple but profound sentiment. What better way to let someone know that you carry a piece of them with you where ever you go?

Compassion and empathy are signs of courage. They show that you can hold the pain of others, and not run away from it. Never let someone tell you your ability to feel for others is a flaw.

I adore dogs. I go nuts when I meet a dog on a walk. I get wistful over reels of puppies. I yearn for a dog to snuggle with. But I won't get a dog, because I don't think I can offer a dog the kind of care and comfort they deserve. Letting a person into your life requires the same consideration.

Persistence is a superpower. It takes a special kind of courage to try, over and over, with the same love and patience you brought to the very first attempt.

Most of us are experts at throwing up roadblocks. Listing all the reasons we can't do something. Instead, tell me why you can. What do you have the power to do?

The portrait of the Obamas in the presidential library captures something many people feel about them: a humanity, a partnership, a shared purpose. And in times when public discourse feels especially coarse, there is value in pausing to appreciate examples of decency, intellect, and perseverance.

The only real goal in life is to be happy. And each of us gets to decide for ourselves what our happiness looks like.

Humanity is MADE of nuance. We are all little bundles of settings that come on sliding scales, and each of us has our settings tweaked just slightly differently.

YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE GREAT AT A THING TO DO THE THING. I feel like one of the significant pains we've inflicted on ourselves, for no good reason, is the idea that in order to enjoy a thing you must be good at it.

I didn't sleep last night, and I'm over here trying to power through my morning, which is a blatant violation of one of my top rules: Treat yourself with as much kindness as you would offer to someone else.

Someone 26 years old was telling me they felt like it was too late to explore their real passion in life, because they hadn't started when they were a teen. Genuinely mind blowing to me that anyone thinks 26 is too late.

We underestimate how much choice we have when it comes to letting joy into our lives. Yes, sometimes things are hard, or full of grief, or simply unpleasant. But even in the difficult times we still have the option to feel the joy that comes our way.

You're allowed to treat your body like your favorite pet. Take it for little walks. Give it treats. Make sure it's properly groomed, and fed, and rested. Try to train it to do what it needs to do, but offer that training with love and affection.

Each new day holds the chance for us to experience joy, success, and fulfillment. Sometimes all that's stopping us is the conviction that we won't. Be open to the possibility that today can be good.

Too often we set goals for ourselves that are unrealistic and unachievable, and when we fail the shame we feel over that becomes just another hurdle in our path. It's okay to set yourself a small goal. Take the little win. Small steps will get you there faster than no steps at all.

There was a time in my life when I was so mired in the bad things, it felt like the whole world was awful. I was skeptical it was going to help, but I started forcing myself to make a list of good things that happened every day.

When we live our lives in panic mode, it can actually be scary to calm down and not exist at the extremes. The panic makes us feel invested and energized, and like we're *doing something* about whatever the current issue is.

I feel like I say this all day long, every day, in five hundred different ways. You have to have a positive goal. I don't mean sunshine and rainbows, I mean a goal that is actively geared towards attaining something, as opposed to eliminating something.

People will not share things with you if you have made yourself unsafe to them. It doesn't matter why. You may have had the best of intentions. You may have been trying your best. You may have unresolved trauma of your own. If you make yourself unsafe, people will treat you as unsafe.

Yesterday I saw a bumble bee trying to burrow into a flower that was too small for her. The round little goofball just kept shoving her way into the blossom, but as soon as she'd land the stalk would tip sideways under her weight and she'd fall out again. It was charming.

Art is never about perfection. It's about what you want to show the world. Your life is your magnum opus. Don't worry about the mistakes. Think about what you want the whole work to be, in the end.

Love is weird. When we talk about the emotion of love, no one really understands what someone else means, because we all define it differently. It's like having a room full of people who have never actually seen an elephant trying to describe an elephant.

Failure is how we learn. It's not an indictment of who we are, or our moral compass, or our decision making skills. It's the natural result of trying. Just part of the process. If you fail... apply what you've learned, and keep going.

Friends, let me introduce you to the meal I call "charcuterie board." It has pretensions of grandeur, but is actually delightfully easy and modular for those of us who sit down to meals with people with a variety of food related issues.

This is probably an overreaction, but whenever someone mentions "maxxing" anything I kind of want to rip my arm off and throw it at them. Why does every trend try to remove the incredible variety of life from being a human?

Taking a break doesn't mean you're broken. It means you know where your boundaries lie. Don't let the incessant push to "do more" take you past your limits. Rest is not a moral failure.

Judge Reyes did what the entire GOP refuses to do: acknowledge basic biology. Intersex people exist. Chromosomes aren’t always XX or XY. Gender characteristics don’t fit neatly into 2 boxes. An Executive Order built on “only two sexes” isn’t “truth.” It’s ideology with a government letterhead.
Judge Reyes: EO 14183 adopts the definitions of a separate executive order called Defending Women from Gender Ideology, Extremism and Restoring biological Truth to the federal government. And that EO states, "sex shall refer to an individual's immutable biological classification as either male or female." And it states that, "It is the policy of the United States to recognize two sexes, male and female." Do you see that or do you remember that?
Jason C. Lynch:l will take the court's word for it.
Judge Reyes: You understand, as a matter of biology, it's just incorrect that there are only two sexes, right?
Jason C. Lynch: Do I understand that to be incorrect as a biological matter?
Judge Reyes: Yes. It is incorrect as a biological matter. You understand that, right?
Jason C. Lynch: I don't understand that to be incorrect.
Judge Reyes: You understand that not everyone has an xx or an xy chromosome, right?
Jason C. Lynch: Honestly, no, I don't.
Judge Reyes: It's actually kind of a really important point because this executive order is premised on an assertion that's not biologically correct. There are anywhere near about 30 different intersex examples. So someone who does not have just xx or xy chromosome is not just male or female. They're intersex. And there are over 30 potential different intersex examples. We've got genetic differences. We have people with xxx chromosomes. We have androgen insensitivity, xy genetically, that may have female external sex characteristics and internally have testes. There's a five alpha reductase deficiency that causes changes in testosterone metabolism, xy that may have female external genitalia or ambiguous genitalia.
The point being, and I'm happy to have you guys brief this more if you want, but I'm telling you right now that there are people who are neither male or female. And so the premise of the executive order is just incorrect.

Folks. Disability is *contextual*. It's about having something about you not be suited to the way the world is constructed. It's not a comment on the person, it's a comment on how their mind and body works in the context of the world we have.
