My client commissioned this piece in remembrance of their late father, who originally introduced them to the Ultraman series and whose favorite monster was Jamila. Really honored to have been able to paint this for them.

Yeah so like Toho clearly has pre-print elements for this classic Honda-Tsuburaya scene but refuses to do anything with it on modern home video. I wouldn’t be surprised if the legal shit with the Honda estate going against Toho in the 2010s had something to do with it but also Toho is just flippant.

May I say that Ishiro Honda's Monster Zero is a very timely motion picture, because it's about a technofascist society that objectifies its women who wants to steal all of Earth's fresh water.

In turn, here is a clip from my restoration of the Italian theatrical dub of RODAN. The film was later re-dubbed for TV in the 1980s using the Toho cut as a basis, so it's one of a handful of Toho toku films that got multiple dubs in the country, its brethren including Gargantuas and Monster Zero.

For real. It is fucking CRIMINAL that we've been deprived of good looking transfers of both versions of the film for decades. Like this has actively harmed the reputation of the film over the years. The Eastmancolor shot and Technicolor developed spectacle of RODAN was what got asses in seats in '57

We're planning to eventually make our own restoration of the King Brothers RODAN by using the YCM separations provided on the Toho UHD, since that's the direct ancestor of the KB cut. Grade here is just a blanket one and obviously not accurate, but here is an example of what can be done on Reel 4A.

Sample from my restoration of the German dub of RODAN to our 35mm scan. The German and Italian theatrical dubs have languished for years in terrible reissue versions that conform the audio to a poor recreation of the U.S. cut done in the '70s. #SaveAllDubs!

Especially since the available sources for these dubs sound worse for wear and are in need to be properly remastered. And then you have the dubs that have never been released on video (as far as we know), which is it's own can of worms
