The actual population ratio is about 1:1. The males congregate at the hibernaculum entrance after they first emerge, and then wait for many days for females to emerge. The females are mated immediately upon their emergence, and then depart, giving the impression skewed sex ratio.

Watch for a whole load of swallows moving north against this strong wind. Tree, Rough-winged, and Violet Green Swallows were moving low over the Bow River #YYC inching along against an unwelcoming wind.

Two things showed up last night #YYC - American Robins + snow. The first few robins that arrive tend to be the bright chested, black-headed males. Despite the white stuff, dried berries and crabapples should provide food until the temps turn. #birds
