It’s 2037. Dan Kaszeta is still patiently advising people not to pick up tear gas or stun grenades, and not to rinse eyes with anything other than water. Every. Single. Day. Worried public safety officials are developing the DanBot TM to search out and reply to dumb advice wherever it appears.

Kin, a crime drama set in Dublin is also excellent. As is Blue Lights, a place drama set in Belfast.

Second this. Blue Lights is excellent - both a really good police show and it also sensitively weaves in the complex politics of Northern Ireland too for added depth.

Came here to say this.

I bet the LibDems can’t believe their luck.

What I can’t understand is who, of the people who might be willing to vote Tory, is this supposed to appeal to? Their electoral base is largely the more prosperous over 50s and that group is (a) hot on a local form of environmentalism and, relatedly, (b) very NIMBY.

I’m with you on condemning that repulsive motion, but surely the Greens are too marginal, and their ascent was too reliant on Starmer’s political ineptitude, for this to have much impact on the left bloc overall? My guess is enough of their voters will now back Labour or LibDems when it matters

Ah. Ok. Still don’t understand the “entirely unfavourable” bit though - sounds like you are saying that applies to rejoin?

Going Underground 🇬🇧🇺🇦 @goingundergrounduk.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
I mean that’s just utter nonsense. There are pros and cons for both rejoin and stay out. How you judge and weigh those is a personal thing but no sensible person can claim there’d only be benefits from their preferred outcome.

Going Underground 🇬🇧🇺🇦 @goingundergrounduk.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
Yes, but demand is so strong in central London that they do need to ration places with higher prices which has the happy side effect of tens of millions of revenue for Westminster.
100
Going Underground 🇬🇧🇺🇦 @goingundergrounduk.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
Westminster in particular but also Kensington and Chelsea and some of the other inner boroughs get huge revenue from non-resident on street parking too. I think the Tories write the funding formula to ignore this. The central London councils are such special cases there wasn’t much objection

Particularly as the current very corrupt Russian oligarchy is pretty much the polar opposite of what idealistic leftists wistfully wishing for “communism done properly this time” should support.

I completely agree you can model it, only point is that it isn’t going to be exactly the same question/decision but reversed, so the results of the 2016 vote aren’t quite as predictive as a simple reversal would be. The questions aren’t apples and oranges though - more Pink Lady vs Golden Delicious

*although I agree with Dr Stylite that if there’s goodwill from the EU (ie if they actually want us in) the Euro and Schengen don’t have to be blockers

I guess the biggest challenge is that the two things you are choosing between will be a bit different - at least some of the UK’s opt outs and rebate won’t be available* this time while “Global Britain” leading a new free trading order has now shown to be so naive and foolish as to be embarrassing.

Yep. My two children look and sound like Braverman’s definition of English and yet half their ancestry has zero UK heritage. They both have BAME friends who are more British than they are in terms of parents and grandparents.

Pretty sure they want domestic customers to all move to EE. They offered us a much better deal to move over from BT to EE.

But it’s not hypothetical - he let off a bomb that did lots of damage and evidence suggests he’d planned more. It was a minor miracle that nobody was hurt or killed and given where and when he caused the explosion he was probably trying to cause casualties. That’s an incredibly serious crime!

I’m not a lawyer or an expert on sentencing, just pointing out that this wasn’t only about property damage as I think that’s useful context.

If it’s the incident I’m thinking of then it was only by chance that passers-by weren’t killed or badly wounded - it was on quite a busy residential street during the day - so I suspect that a part of the sentence will reflect that recklessness.

So you want to subsidise the drivers with the least efficient (usually biggest and most expensive) cars the most. Why? Wouldn’t a more environmentally friendly and pro-energy security policy be to provide additional support to EV purchasers?

We get three mobiles on more data than we can use plus good broadband for about that from EE (owned by BT). Wonder if it’s because they want to push household customers to EE now - they offered us a much better EE deal than our old BT branded contract for the same a couple of years ago.

Do you mean Jeremy Paxman?

Can confirm. Have crossed there countless times including recently. Has been a signal controlled pedestrian crossing for many years, and on every signal phase a minority of cyclists ignore the red regardless of how many pedestrians are crossing (and in rush hour that can be 100+ a phase).
010
Going Underground 🇬🇧🇺🇦 @goingundergrounduk.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
Sorry, this is nonsense. I’ve crossed that junction many times. 90%+ of cyclists do the right thing and stop on red while rest will either try to slowly weave through pedestrians or just go at speed through knowing pedestrians will have to avoid them. And they all know exactly what they are doing

If this is the pedestrian crossing near Farringdon station on Farringdon Road then OMG yes! Every pedestrian phase in rush hour alway has several cyclists just ignoring the red light. If the police fined every cyclist who goes through there on a red they’d make £1000s every day.

Sure, and as I say there is some effect. But remember that the upper echelons is comprised of people going into leading universities 30-40 years ago. Back then Oxbridge was over half private, and now it’s down to 25-30%

Agree. I honestly wouldn’t dream of buying local currency now when I travel abroad except for the US and when skiing in Europe (and the latter is only to tip the chalet team). Not relevant to macro-economic management but it is the only experience of foreign currencies for most voters

Agree Schengen ought to be sellable, particularly once the full effect of new EU border controls is felt. Obviously need to get Ireland’s agreement though too given Common Travel Area. I think the Euro is less sellable at present, but also less of an issue as suspect the EU isn’t massively bothered

Honestly, I don’t think this is true (I’m a comprehensive school boy). Uni and work is where you make most of those connections. Also, for work experience, bigger companies are now more conscious of being inclusive in their work experience. There’s obviously some advantage, but much less than before

And if private schools were banned, the same parents would spend small fortunes on tutoring. This is what happens when wealthy parents are trying to get their children into (usually) very good local state grammar schools in the areas that have them, or helping kids get good GCSE and A-level results.
