Some of them are a bit silly and some as i understand the challenge are kinda there already or could be done if we were bothered (gene therapy from bacteria), but i though some were interesting and testable - maybe more as a test of AI’s abilities and a feat of chemistry than for medicine

not much to say just that on both sides (the pitiers and pityees) everything is atomised to individual feelings, which for bees in particular clearly doesn’t get the frame right

good point but also the rampant individualism that sits under and behind all of this

i think the answer has to be that they’re hiding them in amongst the social and geographic strata

Can you get any DNA from the museum specimens and do some ~environmental DNA analysis to narrow down where these things might be? Or maybe general environmental DNA and look for new mite sequences in there?

One thing I love about minute sea creatures and ireland is the story of john vaughn thompson who showed that microscopic plankton are the larvae of well known, recognisable, sea creatures like barnacles and crabs

should be ashamed that sharpe presses all my buttons and i know it and like it. i watch with the expression of a dog scratched somewhere he can’t reach and his hind leg is kicking at the air in time with the scratches and on some suppressed level he knows what’s going on but doesn’t want it to stop

idk the answers so will just add randomly that i have seen Evidence that heat stressed chickens in the sunshine do seek shade (and pant too or at least have their beaks open)

bits and pieces ig. They are part of the landscape and make it, in many places. Prob heat sensitivity, different breeds… i kind of mean to capture lambs stotting and gamboling and post it but miss this every year. Also sometimes think i should have an account of photos of sheep tracks

Yeah, and we have very large areas of unproductive uplands used for sheep grazing that if unsubsidised would return to forest. There is some question about replanting versus letting existing seedbank grow (causing slow succession as noted in OP), and talk around reducing deer numbers to get trees…

huh. From the abstract guess they’re putting fixed antibody genes in, probably on top of the existing, varying, ones they’d need for a functioning regular immune system. Tho how they get proper B cell expression…. anyway, the public love and trust environment scale tick engineering projects..

because it’s also about tissue level mutation rates and cellular turnover, and inflammation (whether that’s independent of cell turnover idk) but still feels like we’re lumping a lot of diseases together under ‘cancer’ (Even with some genes being key, and germline mutation of these causing multiple

We get melanomas while more or less no others (except maybe grey horses with a specific mutation) do,again iirc. If ‘organism lifespan’ and ‘cell number’ were the only determinants then we’d expect cancer of all tissues according to their %age of body cells but we don’t see that. Ofc much of this is

godoreida.bsky.social @godoreida.bsky.social · 28/06/2026
Idk about natural wild lifespan vs cancer specifically…would predict short lived species in captivity would eventually succumb to cancer and i don’t think this is so. ‘Cancer’ is so weirdly different between species anyway - like we hardly get solid tissue sarcomas while some species get lots iirc

will be held to it, it can come back and bite you. Also stuff like that There’s literature i think is junk and have views on what should happen to its authors but i would have to consider very carefully any publicly visible statement, even just to be fair to them

Yeah, this should be possible but there are a few impediments. Didn’t help that institutions pulled themselves off x because it signalled disapproval to people who might post this there. Other part is you’re really putting yourself on the line and have to consider wording every post carefully - you

Yeah, norman takeover was basically warlordism (not even functionally feudal back to english king), they morphed into gaelic irish system quickly, then tudor reconquest in different forms (surrender and regrant) and later plantations, english civil war spilling over…

Haven’t spent much time here (just follow ur circle) but haven’t seen much science here or x. to me it felt too political and policed over the years but idk if that’s at all related to why it subsided. things feel a bit weird. maybe just me.
