global affairs canada suddenly stumbling over itself to ask "in mean, like, are borders even real? they're just lines on a map"
Late last month, a Global Affairs spokesperson suggested to the CBC that it was up to Israel to decide whether to fly through Canadian airspace, adding that “Global Affairs Canada does not comment on which route a foreign state chooses to take.”

This is nonsense. It is up to Canada, and Canada alone, to decide who enters our territory.

which FIPA's ED said raises concerns about that police force's transparency practices
Wilson has since gone on to become the chief of the Victoria Police Department, and Woywada said that raises additional concerns given her promotion to leadership.

“If the leadership doesn't make information management a priority, the organization won't,” he said. “So it is concerning.”

VicPD spokesperson Tiffany Parton said Wilson is “not in a position to respond to questions regarding the administration or processing of a freedom-of-information request made to another police agency.”

Taleeb Noormohamed telling the Tyee AI creates a "pyramid of opportunity" feels like a marketing spin on pyramid schemes
the tyee

So it becomes this really interesting synergy taking the talent that you have and optimizing them to be able to use their talent while they build companies here. It becomes this very interesting pyramid of opportunity, where by ensuring that businesses can access capital and talent, Canadians can then build world-class businesses that create more jobs here, and then create spinoffs, and create more businesses from those spinoffs. That’s how you start to really cultivate the ecosystem.

I'd like to think someone in the government is just subtweeting David Eby here
"These interests may be resolved through negotiation, challenged in subsequent litigation, purchased, or remain on the Cowichan Title Lands. That is not a matter for this Court to address... It is an issue for the Crown and not the private landowners to resolve."

In plain language: the court expressly did not order the removal of any private property owner. The Cowichan Nation's own public statement in October 2025 said the Nation "does not seek recovery of the private fee simple lands." And on February 14, 2026, the BC government and the Cowichan Nation issued a joint statement:

"Neither the Cowichan Nation nor British Columbia are seeking to invalidate any privately held fee simple titles on the Cowichan Title Lands through the negotiation or appeal processes."

notice where income and housing costs become completely untethered from one another
a graph showing read disposable income and housing costs in the US and Canada between 1980 and 2020. in the US, housing prices is mostly increasing at a slower rate than disposable income, save the 2000s, where it rapidly increases before crashing in 2008. in Canada, it's in the early 2000s, shortly after Karen's graph shows social housing builds falling off a cliff, that housing skyrockets whole disposable income continues a fairly linear trajectory

the graph also shows spikes in the early 1980s, after a significant dip in social housing builds in the late 1970s, and again in the early 1990s, after another significant dip in social housing builds in the late 1980s

"truly abhorrent how the left is trying to subvert the courts" says man who clerked for the the embodiment of judicial corruption
"It is alarming to see how far the Left has gone in its blatant effort to capture the judiciary. Its feeding of trial lawyers’ climate 'science' to sitting judges who will decide contentious litigation in this area short-circuits our system of justice," said Carrie Severino, a former law clerk for Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas and president of the Judicial Crisis Network.

"When they can’t pass their extreme policies into law, they are attempting to use the courts as an end run around the legislative process," said Severino, whose organization has helped vet judicial nominees, including Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett.

the ICE spin on this is just so obscene www.mprnews.org/story/2026/0...
The ICE statement says, in part:

“Today, ICE officers in Minneapolis were conducting targeted operations when rioters began blocking ICE officers and one of these violent rioters weaponized her vehicle, attempting to run over our law enforcement officers in an attempt to kill them—an act of domestic terrorism.

“An ICE officer, fearing for his life, the lives of his fellow law enforcement and the safety of the public, fired defensive shots.

“He used his training and saved his own life and that of his fellow officers.

“The alleged perpetrator was hit and is deceased. Thankfully, the ICE officers who were hurt are expected to make full recoveries.”Emily Heller lives near 33rd and Portland and said she woke up to a commotion outside her home. She said she saw a car blocking traffic on Portland Avenue that appeared to be part of a protest against federal law enforcement operations.

Heller said she heard ICE agents telling the driver, a woman, to “get out of here.”

“She was trying to turn around, and the ICE agent was in front of her car, and he pulled out a gun and put it right in — like, his midriff was on her bumper — and he reached across the hood of the car and shot her in the face like three, four times,” Heller said.

Heller said it appeared the woman then accelerated and traveled about 100 feet before striking a utility pole and some other vehicles. She could be seen slumped over inside her car.

"we need to be brave and bold and be scared of drug users"
"I believe that just as sometimes we need to think outside of the box and consider new solutions to challenges, particularly one as significant as the opioid crisis, we also have to be brave and bold and stand up and talk about it when something is not working," said Chief Wilson, who previously served as deputy chief with the Vancouver Police Department. "And that's indeed what happened with the pilot project here in British Columbia."

I’ve been present for many of these recitations, which are common in liberal areas of the United States too. They are usually received by their audiences as a Christian invocation might once have been: a socially required ritual in which only some believe, but at which it would be rude to scoff. After all, what harm does it do?
In the past few months, Canadians have learned that these well-meaning pronouncements are not, in fact, harmless. Far from it. Canadian courts are reinterpreting these rote confessions of historical guilt as legally enforceable admissions of wrongful possession.
In August, a British Columbia court ruled that the titles to public land across 800 acres south of downtown Vancouver must be subordinated to a new “Aboriginal title” belonging to a group of about 5,500 Indigenous Canadians.
Although the judge in question has claimed that this decision does not apply to private land, the logic of this ruling has proved so muddled that it has called into question not only the private titles of some 150 landowners in the region but also the ownership of almost every piece of private land in British Columbia—and possibly all of Canada. Some Americans may try to apply this precedent to the U.S. too.

something nice I will say about Utah is that it has an official mushroom
screenshot:

As recently as 2014, the taxonomic identity of the psychoactive Jian shou qing mushroom remained unknown. It wasn't until mycologists in Yunnan purchased and sequenced the mushrooms being sold in an open-air street market (where it had been sold for decades) that the species was officially described and recognized as being new to science. Its formal Latin name is Lanmaoa asiatica, and, interestingly, it's more closely related to the common porcini (Utah's official state mushroom) than to any other currently known hallucinogenic mushroom species.

But the San Francisco-based micro-mobility company moved forward. Instead of watching her garden or neighbours on the block, she says she is now facing a constant parade of scooters and riders.“It’s very upsetting,” said Marini. “We took my grandson out to learn how to ride his bike and saw beer cans littered around the station,” she said, noting broken glass from a car accident the previous night and the absence of Lime helmets on the majority of the station’s scooters.

for the globe editorial board it's just a given that government spending is inherently bad and workers are reduced to "fat to cut." never mind the livelihoods of the human people they're talking about or the broader economic impact of cutting jobs
Attrition is not a strategy
Any successful effort to rein in the cost of government will have to entail a significant reduction in the bloated ranks of the public service. As this last chart shows, the number of employees in the core civil service and government agencies soared under the Trudeau Liberals.Between fiscal 2016 and 2024, the number of workers in the federal public service jumped by 38 per cent, or 98,986 people. (Those figures exclude parts of the RCMP, members of the Canadian Armed Forces and some smaller agencies.) There was a modest decline in 2025, of 9,807 workers, offsetting about 10 per cent of those gains.

However, the overwhelming majority of departures were in just two spots, the Department of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship and the Canada Revenue Agency. The good news: there’s lots of fat to cut elsewhere.

Your FOl request is in the final stages of the process however Policing Services Division (PSD) is impacted by the Labour Disputes and have been participating in job action since Sept 2, 2025. This mean their subject matter expert assessor and other delegated decision makers from this area who need to review the final recommendation of the release package are involved in this job action. These people are needed to approve the recommendations to release more information back to you.

I am requesting an extension of 30 days, however it is unclear how long this will go on for, which would make the new due date November 4, 2025.

idk that deregulation eggs is a great idea? idk this is worded weirdly, it could be that they are increasing regulations for US eggs in Canada, but that would be a weird thing to include in a paragraph about deregulation www.canada.ca/en/governmen...
The CFIA is advancing an omnibus regulatory package to reduce red tape and support the competitiveness and resiliency of the agricultural sector. The CFIA is proposing a series of targeted amendments to address stakeholder issues by removing prescriptive requirements, providing flexibility for businesses, and leveling the playing field for Canadian producers. For example, proposed amendments seek to align testing requirements for eggs sourced from the U.S. with domestic standards, enhancing the competitiveness of Canadian licensed hatcheries.CBC screenshot
