I think it depends whether the pet is supposed to be speaking to a human or if the voice over is the animal’s inner monologue. Maybe. But I will say using CG to make the mouth move is always bad.

Re-posting a short demo video of some software I’ve been building. Ish is a distributed, file-based issue tracker with a terminal-first UI.

(Some kinds of) software is basically free (as in beer) now.

I’ve managed entire teams of engineers that are less productive than Claude Code. It is no longer a junior engineer.

Was it designed by Archigram or something?

Would you rather live with the banana-sized suspended horse, or a horse-sized banana duct taped to your wall?

How bad an idea is it to leave a 3D printer running unattended overnight? Asking for me.

Honestly have never in my life heard a good thing about a fraternity.

I went to a school with no fraternities so I have no idea what their purpose is other than promoting binge drinking, hazing, and sexual assault, sometimes all at once.

But we know more than enough to say this: We, the people of NYC refuse to accept authoritarianism at our doorsteps. We will always defend the humanity of our immigrant neighbors. ICE's operations in New York City — and everywhere else — must come to a permanent end. #AbolishICE #ICEOutNow

I went in to a Chase branch to open a business checking account, and not only were they not able to get the process started in person, the banker I spoke with didn’t have a physical card. What’s the point of operating a physical branch, even? Just slice all your inefficiency down to the marrow.

I swear Angelenos have more money than sense.
A screenshot of the Erewhon at LACMA merch showing a $250 hoodie (sold out), $300 tote bag and a $95 cap. Late-stage capitalism is so cursed.

It must be comforting to be able to dismiss evidence contrary to your position by convincing yourself that the machine can’t possibly be broken—it must be the human domain expert—or by moving the goalposts.

Every argument from an AI dweeb when I tell them about times the model has gone off the rails on one of my projects boils down to either “you’re doing it wrong” or “just wait til a new model drops.”

This is why I'm so in favor of accessory commercial units. Just getting people in the US used to **walking** for a cup of coffee or a sandwich in the neighborhood may finally do something to rid Americans of our terminal car brain.

I’m far less interested in questioning whether LLMs are conscious than questioning the criteria of consciousness itself. You’re telling me electric meat gets to say it’s self-aware and we just take it at its word? How do we know it isn’t just repeating back training data?

it’s amazing to me that first apple invented the least lossy user interface ever (multi-touch) — where you interact with software controls *directly* & instantly and now the next “big thing” is writing text instructions, the slowest, most disintermediated and lossy way possible

Have you watched Robinson in Ruins? I mean it’s a very strange film whose entire premise is “what if we were just listening to Vanessa Redgrave’s voice for 100 minutes” but anyway it’s about (if it can be about anything at all) a guy who talks to lichen? This is all to say I support your position.

Building large systems with slopbots feels like trying to mold wet sand. Maybe you can but better hope you just need a repose-shaped structure.

Gonna go out on a limb and suggest the loudest voices in the tech industry have very little grasp of the variety and complexity of the world outside their own industry, with a side dish of not understanding that to most people step one in furniture shopping is not "buy a CNC router and lathe"

In my dream I was told I’m good at debugging because I put into words before even touching the code what I could test to narrow down the source of the bug. My awake brain is like, duh, that’s how it’s done. But I also know people who don’t do this so maybe it’s not as common as it should be?
