Y’all, people appeal to authority in their opinions about art…like, SO MUCH. I feel like it’s just as common for people to do this without realizing or questioning it as it is for people to do it on purpose with the assumption that it is normal and correct. #music #musicsky #criticalthinking

A big problem: pretty often, someone says “that doesn’t make sense” when what is actually true is that they don’t understand. The problem is that someone who doesn’t understand is in the exact position which is least likely to enable them to tell whether something makes sense. #criticalthinking

Discovered that this morning that Ringo Starr and Synyster Gates share a birthday, and it's today! It would be cool if somebody made a show where artists with the same birthday played each other's songs and wrote new stuff together. Imagine Octopus's Garden with shred guitar.

m.youtube.com/watch?v=ehu2... Forrest Gump was released on this day in 1994. The main theme from the score is very soft and pretty and emotional (I feel like there was a lot of that in the 90s) I was once hired to play this for a wedding! Soundtrack has some good needle drops too!

50 Cent turns 51 today. I gotta wonder, when he turned 50 last year, how many people were like “ooh 50 is 50!” And then I wonder if he liked that or if it was annoying. Anyway, Happy Birthday 50 Cent! #music #hiphop #musicsky #50cent #musician

So I’ve been following this Sony situation and it has made me realize I have a bunch of physical media, particularly relating to gaming and music, in my house. Me personally, I am kinda terrible at organization, or even knowing where stuff is, but my brother and my dad are great at it.

I joke a lot about how being a professional musician usually just means you have a bunch of jobs instead of one like a normal person. For example, right now I’m on my vacation from two jobs, and still doing the other three. It’s nice! #music #musicsky #musician

A real conversation I had with a piano student, age 10 Student: (pointing to the picture of my cat on my water bottle) That’s a cute cat. Me: Thank you Student: What does it feel like to own a cat? As he left he challenged me to memorize the longest word in the dictionary. #music #teacher

Heard somebody say that “guitar isn’t cool anymore.” I think it’s sad that people would look at it like this. Guitars are cool, saxophone is cool, opera is cool, hip hop is cool, Bach lute suites are cool. Music is just cool and I hope people find a way to enjoy it. #music #musicSky #musiciansky

So, lately I’ve had several of my private lesson students (younger kids) come in and think it’s hilarious to sit in my chair before the lesson starts. I don’t know why, but I’ve started saying “Okay, that means you’re the teacher today, show me how to play this piece!”
