If there’s a swooping magpie it makes sense to be cautious. But knowledge is power. Magpies swoop because they were hurt by a human or they were raised by a magpie who was hurt by a human. But you can bring them round from this behaviour.

A trip down memory lane. On our way back from South East Asia in 2017. My first trip overseas in adulthood. In part on account of the fact I don’t fly ✈️

While we were camped out on the first by Batemans Bay I was excited that the family of 4 Sooty Oystercatchers I had seen at the far end of the beach walking away from other people, calmly walked right by me at a closer distance. Snorkelled in a secluded rock pool at Sunset. Loved this camp!

Shipwreck Creek was a good camp. It was only then, the 3rd camp of the trip that the sun really came out and we went for a swim. We sat in the shade by the beach most of the daytime while we were there. One day Jas caught us a nice fish for our tea <3

Took a photo of Aunty Jess (left) & Aunty Queenie (right) in to mum today. Jess was like a grandma to mum (her own grandmother having died when her mum, my Nan, was only a child) Queenie was in a nursing home when I met her. We used to visit and take her a tray of glacé fruit; cherries & pineapple

This spring we successfully trained the new Mr Magpie (pictured is Mrs Magpie) not to swoop us. Sadly he didn’t extend this to everyone else & many screams were to be heard & safe passage for the lucky few I bumped into when returning home or leaving.
