I was playing a bunch of masterpieces and going 'video games are awesome' and then i got TRICKED into playing a series of 'underrated masterpieces' that made me think 'hmmmm maybe video games arent actually good at all'

When I played onimusha: warlords I was mostly unimpressed but hearing so many people i respect talk about their love for the series recently, I started up 2. After about 3 hours I'm left like this

The lone gunman on the frontier of civilisation, away from the cities, forced to carve his own moral path falls apart when the guy is confronting literal demons and evil creatures. The evil creatures lose all possible horror and impact when they exist in a hellish desert. Theres nothing gained.

I don’t think there’s an aesthetic I find uglier than dark fantasy western. Western themes video games already have an abysmal aesthetics hit rate (remember, borderlands is trying to ape westerns) but this shit is just hands up ugly and has no real point

Total radicalism perspective on the ff7 levelling discourse. They should set your level minimum for every fight in that game. The medium has been held captive by the checklist-ticking child despots for too long, it’s time to make games for the people who skip cutscenes and never stop sprinting.

At least I can reuse the cards for other decks until a new set develops a new meta :’)

Glunch @glunchboss.bsky.social · 24/09/2026
Built two decks for one piece tcg this meta. One just got banned and the other is now food for what will be the new tier 1 deck. I got totally owned.

in my experience with fighting games, the moment you win once you become a guy who can win. that's such an important threshold to cross for confidence. people have started to recognise me too, which is always a really warm and fuzzy feeling. nice to have a third space again after leaving fgc.

so close to winning the one piece local today, beat someone whos won before. i know im almost there. huge confidence boost compared to a dreadful performance last week. lost to a deck on top table partly because i tech'd for certain popular decks i never faced. thats how it goes

I saw a single post of someone saying they liked it this morning and I got activated like a sleeper agent. I didn’t know a single thing about it this morning aside from it being a falcom action rpg lmao

I’ve been possessed by a demon that tells me I have to play Xanadu Next right now or I’ll never feel peace again. That games been on the lowest of the low on my priority list for years but right now it feels like nothing else will satisfy me. The last time it happened I played dragons dogma

Like I have what. 20 games total on a deck and I’m upset at losing bad matchups lmao. Not a healthy place to be in at all

Was trying to take one piece a lot more seriously but feel like it’s just leading to a terrible mindset. I’m just gonna play, focusing on irls, mainly for the social outlet, and then if I’m still playing 6 months to a year from now I’ve hopefully exposed myself enough to start actually learning

Unfortunately not enjoying EOSD nearly as much as I hoped I would. Not a huge fan of both learning and playing the stages in this game, which is a huge duller on getting motivated for the lunatic clear

SPRAWL Zero is riffing on that kinda late-2000s-early-2010s style of fps that has always been a guilty pleasure for me. People use wanting a brain-off game as an excuse to play mid but this is is totally a brain-off game thats good and fun

(AUD btw, so thats 361USD) i wouldnt normally build two decks at the same time but i was like 'okay mihawk will probably stay good for the next six months and the cards arent gonna get any cheaper' so i invested in building it now. hoping that works out lmao

im -500 on buying one piece cards to fill out two different top meta decks this month im not too fussed about spending that much right now but doing that every set would be way too much lmao. gonna have to marry these decks until next year where i start building for melb regionals

Little did he know that this would be the last time he actually does stealthing around for the rest of the game MGS4 is unfortunately on indefinite hiatus until i can find 3-4 uninterrupted hours to finish act 5. i think thatll happen on like, maybe the 19th lmao

Yeah I think the child character designs are decent aside from the weird texture on links clothes. Never been a fan of botw’s style, think it’s a bit boring, but all the dust and fog in this remake is such a weird style to go with.

Glunch @glunchboss.bsky.social · 09/09/2026
The original and the 3ds remake both have this colourful, fairy tale, picture book stylised/surreal look to them that works for a children’s fantasy story. The world has many different places but nothing feels out of place (gerudo valley vs under the well) Remake doesn’t look like a picture book

Glunch @glunchboss.bsky.social · 09/09/2026
The thing that most annoys me on thinking about it is like. There’s clearly no thought given here on what a child wants to see. This is not made to appeal to them at all. That’s like, the group that should be playing a new OoT!!

More than just looking at the screenshot and saying whether we like it, we should be asking the q ‘does this work for Zelda?’ E.g I don’t like how the links awakening remake looks, but it’s a totally valid interpretation. They’d never make a mario look like this. So why Zelda? Does it fit?

Glunch @glunchboss.bsky.social · 09/09/2026
The real test with oot remakes visuals is: divorced from the knowledge you already have about oot, does this new art style do anything to communicate the tone/style/world/fantasy/whatever of oot. I think overwhelmingly the answer is no. It looks like a different game in every screenshot

Like I understand in the context of the games universe I am returning there, and there are callbacks that feel clever (the rats in the vents, electric floor etc) but I don’t actually feel like I’m returning to anywhere I’ve been before. I feel like I’m in an mgs4 level, not an mgs1 level

Glunch @glunchboss.bsky.social · 04/09/2026
MGS4 SPOILERS I knew about the act 4 twist ahead of time, one of the few things I knew about the game, so maybe that’s why it didn’t hit for me. But man, I just don’t think this kind of thing works at all lmao

low rolling happens, but looking at other games it could be so, so much worse. Unwinnable matchups and lopsided metas exist but if you’re playing the game to win, what matters is how fun and skill expressive the top tier of play is, and one piece mirrors are often really interesting
000
Glunch @glunchboss.bsky.social · 01/09/2026
And it’s a really rewarding game to play competitively because the more knowledgeable player will win a lot more, but when two equally knowledgeable players vs it comes down to fundamental skills that are very high level (hand reading, multi turn planning, understanding of tempo).

Glunch @glunchboss.bsky.social · 01/09/2026
It’s got the right amount of variance you need for a tcg not to feel stale but it’s also got a really small standard deviation, so you get a really healthy number of interesting games without low rolls. Theres lots of ways to hand filter/stabilise, not to play smth that turn, but to fix ur late game

Glunch @glunchboss.bsky.social · 01/09/2026
I got into the one piece tcg cause I had just finished the manga and really liked it. I was kinda skeptical of it just being the ip tho so I’ve dipped into a lot of other tcgs as well, recently come back and realised just how much I love it

I’m definitely one to be like ‘playing games is better than posting about them’, but I’m starting to realise that posting is pretty necessary to maintain game playing behaviours. I would definitely play fewer cool games if I had no place to talk about them
