the marine layer and sky are held back by two utility poles and their respective wires; the morning light is caught in deep shadows on the rough surface of the nearest pole.

the blind hope refers to the fact that the photographer took this as picture #3 in a series of four that were shot relatively hopefully, rather than studiously (as is our usual).

but the results were quite to our liking - plenty of cloud cascading over hills, framed by infrastructure, with a cloud-soaked strip of green at the bottom of the frame.

a utility pole serves as the left pillar of this picture, which shows a steely grey marine layer rolling over the land. in the center of the frame, like an eye peering lazily at the viewer, small strips of blue make themselves known in the morning-boiled sheet of overcast above.

the reason that we took blind shots at this location was because of this particular cloud. we couldn't hike to a vantage point where we could have a fully unoccluded sightline to it, so the next best thing was raising our camera high after focusing the lens and hope we got something to our liking.
