Sandro still loves exploring Yards 2 and 3, but lately he’s spending more time in Yard 1, where he can see the girls and enjoy the pond. And wherever he goes, he’s delightfully muddy! Here, he dusted himself until he was covered in the pond’s pale dirt. ow.ly/2hUk50ZUJZg

Bambi’s contented rumbles are slow, deep, and welcoming. As her rumbles grow louder, Maia begins to squeak. The two friends gently touch and pat each other with their trunks—a beautiful reminder of their undeniable bond.

Baby is making herself at home! She hasn’t settled with one particular group yet, but she’s enjoying time with all five girls. Here, she found a snack stash, picking up tiny bites with her trunk—and tossing a little hay onto her belly to keep bugs away. ow.ly/cSUT50ZUcEe

Baby got a glimpse of a new part of the sanctuary today! She explored Yard 4 for a few minutes, checking out Creeky Alley before heading back toward the barn. For now, she’s happy in the smaller yards, taking her time as she explores and builds bonds. ow.ly/HUKz50ZTcOR

Sandro was covered in mud during last night’s check-in! It seems he’d been enjoying the wallow, mixing dirt and water before scooping mud onto himself with his trunk. He clearly likes making mud—and we hope to soon catch him splashing in the pond.

Sandro is a big guy! The fences in the Male Asian Habitat are about 2.75 meters (9 feet) tall, but Sandro stands taller than the highest bar. We estimate he’s close to 3 meters (just under 10 feet) tall. As he builds muscle, he’ll fill out even more.

National Elephant Appreciation Day is a chance to celebrate what sanctuary makes possible: choice. After decades with limited control over his life, Sandro is now deciding where to go, what to explore, and how to spend his days. That freedom is healing. ow.ly/getP50ZQinB

Have the female elephants sensed Sandro’s arrival? Absolutely. Bambi, Maia, and Guillermina were caught with their trunks raised, seemingly following his scent as they headed toward the pond. For now, the girls remain separated while everyone settles in.

Sandro is just a stunning, sweet, gentleman. He continues to explore his space, probably smelling remnants of Baby’s scent in the yard. There is a brief closeup of the scars on his legs (we don’t know where they’re from). But he is doing well and being perfect. 😍
