Last month, Lorne attended the Deaf Interpreter Conference 5 (DIC5) at CSUN, where he presented on several critical topics, including the role of Deaf interpreters, systemic oppression, and what it means to be a Deaf person in an audio-centric world.

A new publication is out! The all-deaf research team conducted interviews with deaf and hearing adults (parents, caregivers, and educators) across Ecuador. They examined how deaf people experience barriers to education, healthcare, employment, and information access.

Two weeks ago, the GDRI team attended the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD). It was an incredibly enriching experience for the team, deepening their knowledge and commitment to improving the quality of life for deaf people around the world.

One Deaf participant in Ecuador shared that hearing aids can cost up to $2,000, with batteries costing hundreds more. Because of these high costs, 85% of deaf Ecuadorians cannot afford hearing aids or cochlear implants. Access to hearing technology should be equitable and affordable.
