There’s quite a lot of program memory still available so I’m gonna see what I can pack in to that unused 1MB of compressed NOR flash pioneer so gracefully left open for me. Now that I have most of the important functions mapped I can start tweaking/replacing some more.

The 2000 series does not run Linux. It runs NORTi 4.0 and ThreadX. Both proprietary RTOSes. Significantly more work necessary to get to this point than 3000(x) mods. I would not wish this on my worst enemy. That being said *most* of the pain (documenting and making C APIs) is already over with.

Unfinished firmware mod for the CDJ2000nxs. Need to do some more tweaking and expand/optimize the compositor. Sprites aren’t final. Those 3-band waveforms are real tho. I added a file reader for the .2EX file :3

“Mom, can we have CDJ-3000s?” “No sweetie, we have CDJ-3000s at home.” The “CDJ-3000s” at home:

I'm porting CDJ-3000 3-band waveforms to the CDJ-2000nxs because I thought it was funny and I underestimated how much effort that was. But now I'm like halfway done and the sunk cost fallacy is keeping me going.

One time my friend tried to do a flip while wearing his Valve Index and faceplanted - obliterating the headset on his garage floor. Valve replaced it under warranty.

Unless we pull off some Subnautica 2 shit and figure out how to adapt our proteins to heat stress, adaptation as a species is likely not an option, at least without mass die offs. Survival of the fittest is literally just the death of the majority of a population. Geoengineering is more likely.

You heard about the cargo ships right? When they switched from bunker fuel to low-sulfur fuels, the decreased emissions over the ocean resulted in the waters warming faster. So the pollution actually was slowing down global warming and now the ocean is warming faster than ever before.

Yeah, I was intentionally ignoring the climate change problem, because that's likely going to kill us off regardless. Or at least cause mass migrations and famine. It's kind of a damned if we do damned if we don't kinda thing.

I think the most pressing issue is this: Most high-level skills are "use it or lose it". This includes critical thinking itself. When the thinking machine does all the thinking for you, you become incredibly easy to control. Either by said thinking machine, or the rich and powerful.

I personally don't think it's going to turn evil and launch all of the nukes or some shit. Have you seen our nuclear infrastructure? They just upgraded from 8 inch floppy disks in the past decade. Self replication is a possibility, but it can't kill us because we keep the lights on. Enslave maybe.

People think that there will be some indicator or benchmark or something that tells us when we cross the boundary from what we have now into AGI or ASI. When in reality, it's probably just going to keep doing exactly what it's doing now, just slightly better with each model release.

I’ve never landed a job from an online application. Not a single time in the entire time I’ve been alive. It’s literally more productive to go slide into some random employee’s DMs on LinkedIn and hope you can get an internal referral than it is to go though their stupid applicant management system

Ok. Hear me out. Resolume fluid simulation effect. I basically just took github.com/PavelDoGreat... and an optical flow algorithm and shoved em together. It adds fluid simulation to whatever video input you give it instead of needing you to like touch it with your mouse or fingers.

In addition to simulating the full 4fsc RF domain composite video and VHS pipelines, pass 16 is a CRT shader with different shadow masks and phosphor characteristics including persistence. So you will have actual ghosting on this CRT shader. Maybe I'll split that out into its own plugin later on too

VHS Pro v2 is coming along. I managed to get my initial implementation down from 116ms per field to 4.24ms per field (910x262, it's interlaced). You'd think this would scale horribly at higher resolutions if I'm already at 50% of the 60fps frame budget, but GPUs are weird and don't scale linearly.

Bsky is gonna absolutely murder this video, but uh, damn that's one fucked up fake VHS tape (I probably need to work on the stage 6 shader a little more)

That’s the first goal! The second is to start degrading the signal to get some real organic grit and noise going. And the third is gonna be making it fast enough for it to work in realtime as a visual effect :)

No actual hardware was involved in the making of this image. I simulated the RF output from a tape and fed that into vhs-decode. This is the resulting image. It's got some issues but I'm getting real damn close. The fact that I'm able to get a picture out of vhs-decode at all with this is amazing.

GeePot @glitchp0t.bsky.social · 10/04/2026
It's black and white, and blurry as fuck, but I just successfully generated a signal that I was able to decode with vhs-decode (github.com/oyvindln/vhs...) with no actual VCR involved.

I have no idea what this is going to do in terms of performance, since I'm technically rendering the textures bigger internally to accommodate 4x the NTSC subcarrier frequency. But theoretically it's also less shader passes, and less heavy than faking some of it. So we'll see what happens.

Porting it to GPU was kind of a nightmare. Especially the IIR filters. This research paper was a huge help in getting that going. Maybe it’ll allow you go eek a little more performance out of it on CPU as well. hhoppe.com/recursive.pdf

Just added! Thank you for poking me about it and thank you so much for your work on the project. If I can manage to get a universal shader pipeline going at some point in the future I'll contribute back upstream. Right now I have two parallel codebases, HLSL and Metal. Hopefully no hard feelings.

Yes I’ve modified and changed a lot of the algorithms since this snapshot but I definitely still have parts of ntsc-rs in there. I’ll make sure to add attribution on the product page. I’m so sorry for the oversight.
