I don't know what else to say except THANK YOU. What a 10-day food drive!!!!! Over half of the food we received goes to other agencies, so your generosity this Thanksgiving will stretch even further. London doesn't just overcome, it excels in moments like these. #LdnOnt

We're happy to announce that this year's Thanksgiving Food Drive exceeded what we received last year. - and donations are still coming in. Londoners continued to give generously to others despite this tough economic climate. We thank all of you. We truly do.

It's the final shopping day for the Food Drive and I wanted to say a personal thanks for your generosity. These are tough times but our community is tougher and compassionate. The total stands at 103,387 lbs with one day to go. You've stuck with us because that's who you are .. it's appreciated.

Whew! We caught up to last year's food drive total just as we move into the big final weekend - 91,191 lbs. London is doing what it has always done every year - met the London Food Bank demand. How can we not be thankful? Help if you can in this last weekend. The drive ends on Monday. #LdnOnt

Every week, I head into RBC Place to go over the Homeless Lunch Program with chefs and staff. They are the best, representing some of the great qualities of our local business community. They always make room for my little SmartCar 'cause that's just the kind of people they are. We owe them much.

I often felt that Gord Hume understood this city far better than it understood itself. This deeply knowledgeable man passed away yesterday and the good people of Loondon will miss his insights and contributions. Thank you, Gord .... for all of it. #LdnOnt

The food drive is now at 43,934 lbs - down 11% from last year but catching up fast. The food bank has a wide reach, spreading to every quadrant of the city. That's how far your donations go and we're always deeply appreciative of your generosity. Thank you, London.

It's true. Thanksgiving is when London's support of its food bank is wonderful. We're catching up to last year's total at this time (38,597 lbs) but still 15% behind (32,524 lbs). All is good and donations are streaming in. Help if you can - and hank you London.

Glen Pearson @glenpearson.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
This is unprecedented. Donations to the Thanksgiving Food Drive - 23,373 lbs - are down 25% compared to last year at this time. The reasons will all be valid and the cost of living is taking its toll. The drive ends on Thanksgiving Monday and we're not worried. Help if you can ... and thank you.

A special thank you to City Councillor Hadlleigh McAlister for his visit today and a certificate of congratulations for our 40th. Had a terrific talk about food security. I had missed his earlier entry on his platform about the subject and was thankful for his interest. #LdnOnt

Today is the kickoff press conference for the Thanksgiving Food Drive - happening just 2 days before our 40th anniversary celebration. The theme of this year's food drive is the remarkable generosity of this community over 4 decades. Help out if you can - and thank you London for all of it.

A nation cannot build a prosperous future on the exhaustion of its people. When workers are beleaguered, productivity falls—not simply because people work less, but because they have less of themselves left to give. It's why more of those who work are coming to food banks. #LdnOnt

Effective citizenship can set a very high bar when it comes to commitment to community. That's just what Andy & Helen Spreit have done with their $1 million donation to the LHSC Cardiac Lab. On behalf of us all, thank you both for your commitment to the future..

A week today and we get a chance to you see you all for our 40th food bank anniversary. Everyone is invited, since it's a celebration of the generosity of our community for the last four decades. And it will be right in the middle of the food drive. Can't wait.

Politics is is meant to helps us overcome our problems and to accentuate our potential. When it works, we move forward. When it doesn't, we remain mired in-place and our problems prevail.Deaf and deafening aren't helpful.

I was shown respect first entering the full HOC. PM Stephen Harper shook my hand. Disappointing to see so few opposition members to welcome new MPs. The people decided and respect should be shown for that choice. Canada has been great at respecting differences. Let's get back to that.

Stone soup. An opportunity for community to gather and celebrate what they've done for 40 years straight. It's amazing when you think about it. Not a business or a government, but a gathering of citizens bent on alleviating hunger in their midst. Thank you, London. #LdnOnt

A community’s future is shaped by the people who show up to shape it. When we stay home on election day, we don’t escape politics—we simply surrender our place in deciding what comes next.

This only works if you come and join us, since it's you that made these 40 years possible. The work has consumed all of our married life and over half of my entire life. It has given us a community of caring citizens, ennobling us in the process. We'd love to see you. We owe you much.

40 years of boxed memories, gathered over years of this community coming together. Many of these were acquired before cellphones and the internet. We'll break them all out at our 40th annivversary celebration on October 3rd at the food bank - from 11-3. What a community.

An honour to have Federal Minister of Agriculture, Heath MacDonald with us to discuss food hubs and our Farm in a Box initiative. A session full of information, we thank Peter Fragiskatos for helping set it up. There are really important opportunities for London in these coming months.

Food insecurity quietly hollows out the places we call home, because belonging becomes harder when even the simple act of sharing a meal is beyond reach. This is the reality London and all Canadian cities are facing as we approach the Thanksgiving Food Drive. #LdnOnt

Clearly, Canada's capacity to grow and then waste are at clear odds with one another. Our present struggles provide us an opportunity to effectively align our production and consumption of food - with the benefit of lowering hunger.

Work is more than a livelihood but a a way of belonging. Much of what we have built began with people working together — making, serving, inventing and building something none of us could have created alone. Work gives us not only a place in the economy, but a place in one another’s lives.

I pulled these 2 images together, just as a reminder of how America is in a battle for its soul. Somehow, I think Dolly Parton is already winning, despite her departure. She represented the best of all of us, and of America. It's time for a new birth of freedom ... and of compassion.

25 years since Abuk first came into our family in Canada - one of the most remarkable journeys I have ever known. 5 years later she was joined by her twin sister and brother, but it was Abuk that was the pathfinder. Sometimes humanity excels. This was one of those times. Love you, Abuk

She understood the future is built long before it arrives - in the nourishment we provide, the books we place in children’s hands, and what we give them to imagine a life beyond their circumstances. Dolly Parton knew where the future was being made. It's time for us to step up into her long shadow.

The old world seems to be fading away and a new one is forming. We haven't faced a problem quite like this before, but then again, we've shown the ability over the last 159 years to overcome any obstacle and come away un ited as a nation. This is just the newest emanation and we'll prevail again.

Canada is large enough to contain our dreams, but can be diminished by our neglect. The choice before us is not simply what kind of country we want to inherit, but what kind of country we are willing to build. Let's choose a Canada that rises to its hopes rather than shrinks to its prejudices.

It's not wrong to continue posting about the rise in the number of food insecure kids in SW Ontario. They're our primary responsiblity nd deserve our best. The various public health units adross the region have come together to sound the alarm. We must speak up.

The future we are trying to build will not be secured by defeating one another, but by recovering the difficult art of living, arguing and building together. Cooperation is not a retreat from conviction. It is the discipline that makes a common future possible.

I worry about this more every month. This isn't just about homelessness. Food costs are too high. Rent can't be afforded. Our kids can't buy a home. People working two jobs and still having to come to the food bank. We're the 11th wealthiest country in the world and we've lost our narrative.

It used to be that the 1000s the London Food Bank assisted each month came from just 2 or 3 sectors. Now they come from a wide array in our community. In a world where hunger grows, it's reach easily equals its grasp. We see the diversity everyday and its troubling.

We love our community and we only have two enemies at the London Food Bank - hunger and poverty. They are joined at the hip and wreak havoc on our community. But they don't play favourites. They'll demean everyone if we let them.

A working woman approached me yesterday in the drugstore and started to cry. She thanked the food bank for being there last week for her and her young son, telling me of how poverty has stripped her of hope. I can't forget it and I wonder, "surely our community can do better than this?" #LdnOnt

People sometimes say that food banks get overloaded with students coming for help. It's not so. Students make up only 5% of all clients at the London Food Bank ... and that's down from the year previous. On the flip side, a good part of our army of volunteers are students. #LdnOnt

Without this component, every community in the country will never get an effective handle on the homeless problem. When the federal government abandoned this registry decades ago, effective response was lost. It has to opt back in since its a national problem. #LdnOnt

When the wider world seems to be coming apart, the truest response is the humble turn toward the people beside us—the rebuilding of a common local life—where we discover that a community drawn together is not a retreat from a broken world, but the first quiet act of repairing it.

Must do a eulogy this morning for John Lawrence, my dear friend of over 30 years. It is a difficult thing to speak about someone while your own heart is still learning the language of loss, but the memory of this good soul will linger long after today's tears have faded.

Thank God the London Community Foundation understands this distinction. In providing $1.3 million to help House of Hope residents gain an extra few months to find their path wellness is a remarkable act of faith in this community. Our special thanks go out to them. #gratitude
