My recreation of Alfredo Alcala's cover to the very first Masters of the Universe minicomic from 1982. This minicomic came with the first wave of Mattel's He-Man toys, and predated the Saturday morning cartoons. I'll be demonstrating how I make these at the Nanaimo Comic & Toy Expo this Saturday!

The patron who bought my recent comic book recreation of a vintage John Byrne / Terry Austin portfolio illustration sent me a couple photos of it framed and hanging on his wall in Paris, France. I always get a kick out of seeing all the different ways my art has been displayed over the years.

My latest comic art recreation, a vintage John Byrne / Terry Austin Superman illustration. This commission for a collector in France uses vintage dip pen nibs and other vintage supplies to match the original as closely as possible, but with many layers of anti-fraud elements built into the art.

My latest greeting card from Northwest Greetings - available throughout BC and online everywhere. With Canadian patriotism at a high point lately why not celebrate the True North through this fun-filled and furry roadtrip card. More Canadian greeting card content coming this fall - stay tuned!
Retro cartoon greeting card featuring a moose, beaver, polar bear and a Canada Goose holding a Canadian flag flying from a hockey stick in a car loaded up with Canadian camping gear including a canoe, snowshoes, an ice cooler and more. The car is happily puttering towards the viewer down the Trans Canada Highway with plenty of mountain tres and wildlife on a bright sunny day.

Diggin' Thru the Vaults - May 2025 Edition... Editorial illustration from the year 2000... this is what I thought things would look like in 2025: solar panels for roofs, streamlined electric cards and bicycles, smart glasses, hydro-thermal heating, water-based commercial air carriers, etc.
A black and white editorial magazine illustration from the year 2000 of what Victoria might look like in the year 2025 with solar panel roofs, geothermal heating, streamlined electric bikes and cars, smart glasses and water-based commercial airline travel.

The greeting card company that distributes some of my cards to 180+ locations around BC and Alberta requested some Canadian-themed cards. Here's a fun one I'm working on at the moment...
A cartoony scene of a moose, beaver and polar bear on a road trip across Canada with their car loaded up with camping equipment, a canoe, cooler and more. A Canada goose rides on top of the luggage waving a hockey stick with a Canadian flag flying from the end.

Here's a fun look at how I create a typical simple spot illustration. There are a lot of possible variations depending on the job, but this is the most common way I do them.

Some years ago I was asked to create a series of retro superhero-style comic strip ads for a tech company to use online and in trade magazines. On the right are some of the characters designs we ended up not using and on the left is the final look of the ad's main character "Ohm Man".

As the holiday season quickly approaches so to does the realization that in the 15 years since I made this Christmas card for Joanne I've now come to resemble the jolly fellow on the left more than the dapper fellow on the right.
