Did Susan Aitken make Glasgow better? It's a mixed picture. But we've got some cold hard numbers to tell her story. Let's start with waste. Under Aitken’s leadership, Glasgow’s street cleanliness score fell drastically. This might have something to do with budget cuts.

Along with this, we found out that a new director of the companies that Bernardi resigned from, is his partner, Caroline Robinson.
110
The Glasgow Bell @glasgowbell.bsky.social · 31/08/2026
Back in March, a “sequestration” was awarded against Bernardi, which is a legal term meaning ‘bankrupt’. Because it’s a criminal offence to act as a director in companies after you’ve been made bankrupt, Bernardi will have been forced to resign from Clydeside Containers Ltd.

Following our revelation that Dario Bernardi, the initial driving force of Clydeside Containers who also owns La Cheetah club and Max’s Bar, had resigned from Clydeside Containers Ltd earlier this year, we were left wondering who is running the show. More than that, why had he resigned at all?

We’ve dug into the story and discovered a trail of bad luck, misleading information and changing business ownership. At least two people associated with the project have distanced themselves; meanwhile the council has accused Sparling of outright lies.

The Glasgow Bell @glasgowbell.bsky.social · 29/08/2026
But more than a year on from Clydeside Containers’ scheduled launch, the ten or so black containers that were supposed to herald the riverfront’s regeneration sit empty and abandoned.

The Glasgow Bell @glasgowbell.bsky.social · 29/08/2026
When Clydeside Containers was first announced in December 2024, it was billed as a seismic deal. The duo behind it, Dario Bernardi and Nathan Sparling, promised to transform a scrubby patch of dirt down on the Broomielaw into a “first-of-its-kind” venue, bringing the best of Glasgow’s street food.
