It took a while but the schedule was reliable, so I was generally fine with a weekly trip up to Meijer and bringing a book. But I'd already acclimated to the mall leg of that trip from working retail so that probably helped.

I love those things! I hadn't considered them for facial use though.

I really like Lush's Happy Skin for this - for me at least, it gives a solid level of scrubbiness without the risk of edging into scratchiness, if that makes any sense?

I figured if it covered my stride length it would take up most of entire sidewalk, plus I'd still get hit with rain coming at an angle so I mostly gave up on umbrellas and focused on raincoat hoods. But still very curious to see what others recommend!

Vapiano! I'd forgotten about that one. I don't think it lasted as long as HopCat though.

I certainly don't speak for us all, but as a few data points in the other direction, my tall family and friends and I are generally happy to help. And being asked is honestly sometimes a nice change from "wow, you're tall" type comments as far as interactions with strangers!

There was a place near me that did a loaded tater tot pizza (among other wacky options) and I didn't order it frequently but I also never regretted it.

(Shout out to Rodd Tuffcurls and the Bench Press, that experience made me want to see Hamilton more than any recommendation before or since! Although I still prefer their cover of Be A Man from Mulan.)

My husband didn't either, so after it ended we swallowed our embarrassment in not knowing whatever Kids Are Listening To These Days and asked some nearby people. It was You'll Be Back from Hamilton. Hundreds of people in formal wear belting it out together in the Great Hall at the Field Museum.

Yes. I was at a gala, with a cover band I already knew would feature songs across a range of genres that might be more or less familiar to me but until that point had been at least recognizable, and then they started one, the whole venue was singing along and clearly INTO IT and I had no idea.

To be fair, I only have one at home now because I inherited it years ago, so while I do appreciate having the option I don't think I'd get a new one if it broke. That said I'm firmly in the "don't MAKE me use my phone for the thing" camp so I do support print options/printer availability generally!

I'm in Chicago and this solution is relatively common for old buildings in winter, it's kind of like a DIY double glaze in my understanding. But we learned from experience that it's much harder to set up once the temp is below 20 F so the Blanket Curtain plan is always ready as a backup!

We use a window insulation kit that's essentially giant sheets of cling film and long strips of double-sided tape that you attach to the inside of the window frame and then heat with a hair dryer until it's taut. It's nice because you still get light but I don't know the humidity tolerance.

Sand is the reason I haven't unpacked from getting back yesterday though! I'll decant all my clothes into hampers shortly but I want to wipe down various sunscreens and bug sprays and water bottles that were floating around the beach bag before putting them away, and I want to do that in daylight.

The closer my return is to when I'd normally do laundry or sort out daily meds or whatever, the more likely I am to wait until that would happen anyway. If I'm returning from a formal work trip or a vacation in a different climate and don't need anything from my luggage now I'm more likely to wait.

It depends on day of the week and how much of an overlap my Trip Stuff has with my Current Everyday Stuff, with further adjustments for if I'm toting anything perishable or crushable, or if Sand Was Visited.

Your post prompted me to look at Robin Hobb's site to see where I might have gotten confused last time, and that linked me to this handy Where To Start article which made me go "what? I somehow skipped the whole *pirate* trilogy?!' reactormag.com/assassins-pi...

Thinking about it from that angle now, though, I can see how the romance structure (of each book focusing on a different main character set and their specific HEA) works well to support an entertaining ensemble series.

I'm picturing the owners as a couple with different tastes who, after a long-ago fight, agreed one could have full control over the inside and one over the outside as a compromise... but instead each just kept escalating. "Oh, my roses were too wild for your pristine lawn? Enjoy this zebra carpet!"
