We gotta stop getting rage-baited by people making mundane stuff *aesthetic*. Someone wants their fridge to look like Poison Ivy robbed the Museum of Fine Art? Fine, whatever.

Goodbye Lara was great, and I can see why some people would dislike the ending, but it felt absolutely thematically correct for what it was doing the entire time, as well as leaving the door open for things to happen without explicitly saying that (which I know many people also don't like)

Ray Gunn looks fine and will probably be fun but I can’t help but get John Carter vibes from how it’s talked about.

We live in a golden age of statements from video game companies that sound like estranged family explaining that they know they fucked up, they’ve worked on themselves, and they’re gonna do better now. And it’s only been a month since they told everyone to go fuck themselves and did a burnout.

I respect WoW Forever, in theory, but the reason I still play retail WoW IS the quality of life features. I do not need to go back. I do not want to. That was a time in my life a very long time ago and even then a lot of it was headaches that I never found fun. The wrong friction, basically.

Look, I get it, 60 years of Trek is important and great, but give me a couple more months to truly celebrate... The 30th Anniversary of Trials and Tribble-ations.

My thoughts on the topics of the day: I think the Ocarina of Time remake looks fine and I like Star Trek a lot, even if some of it isn't to my taste..

Constantly fascinated by how common "so when you read this series, skip these books" is as a mindset.

Nice to have a day off...and immediately think of something work related that is going to be a nightmare to figure out because someone else screwed up and you're literally the only one that can fix it.

The more times it happens, the more I wonder if game and other writers realize they keep defaulting to variations of “Rook” and “Hawk” for main characters

At this point, it's the least of the problems, but that lady's books are not actually that good and there is no shortage of great reads for kids.

Let’s not forget what Ursula K. Le Guin had to say about JKR and Harry Potter.
Remember when Ursula K. Le Guin savaged J.K. Rowling in a 2004 Guardian interview?

“I have no great opinion of [JK Rowling’s writing style]. When so many adult critics were carrying on about the “incredible originality” of the first Harry Potter book, I read it to find out what the fuss was about, and remained somewhat puzzled; it seemed a lively kid’s fantasy crossed with a ‘school novel’, good fare for its age group, but stylistically ordinary, imaginatively derivative, and ethically rather mean-spirited.”

I don't mind the design of the Kelvin Enterprise, but seeing it again makes me realize the nacelles are positioned in a way that it looks like it's tucking its arms in awkwardly to fit through a tight space.

Oh, hey, that seemingly innocuous line of dialogue written a while back turns out to actually be super helpful with connecting the dots on some plot information. Should probably make some edits so it’s actually intentional.

I have some thoughts about the new Spider-man that I will try to draw a comic about but for now here is this prescient comic from *2016*
comic in nine-panel grid. 1. Spider-man sits with coffee in a mug patterned like charlie brown's shirt. 2. He says, Hiya, Frank, as the Punisher walks in. Punisher grunts at him. 3. Spider-man turns to say, You punishin' hard or hardly punishin'? to Frank, off-panel.4. Eh? Spider-man says. Eh? 5. Spider-man sits up straighter, watching Frank off-panel. 6. Spider-man hunkers down, and speaks in black dialogue balloons with white writing, I'LL TELL YOU WHAT, SPIDEY, I JUST PUNISHED THAT BATHROOM, HEH HEH 7. Spider-man's spider sense goes off, and he cocks his head. 8. BLAM! Spider-man's coffee cup is shot off the table. 9. Spider-man yells at the off-panel Frank, YOU ONLY PUNISH YOURSELF WITH AN ATTITUDE LIKE THAT

It’s really hard to emphasize how much entertainment press, even from legit publications, is marketing, spin, and has an aim to try to make certain things happen. Even ones that you agree with. Hell, especially those!

Even if you liked Potter as a kid, ya gotta grow up and see Harry was a rich jock who became a cop, who never shared his wealth (hoarded in a bank run by antisemitic goblins) with his best friend's impoverished family, who never cared about freeing the enslaved elves, whose author is an evil monster

One of many “tech dudes missing the point of stories” that feels like it’s more prevalent and constantly missed is the 3 Laws of Robotics. All of Asimov’s robot stories about them are literally about how they don’t work and are constantly circumvented.

I think R rated level gore is probably too much for Trek. Horror is fine, but that feels like the wrong direction. But aside from that, the real problem I have with the new episode is it doesn’t really have a resolution. It just stops. Because it does.

I get why they did it, but it still a little odd to me that Strange New Worlds made the PILOT a thing. Of course they’ve always had pilots, but Trek never felt like the place for “ace pilot” type things compared to other scifi

The Aang movie rules. My main friction with ATLA was always them being kids, and this keeps the fun of them and hits more my kind of thing. It probably won’t happen, but I’d love more adventures with them as young adults.
