If one track encapsulates the irrepressible Glasgow born (of Irish descent) US star Ella Logan, it’s this joyful collab with the all-black Spirits of Rhythm - it shows her jazz feel, her Irish spirit & her acceptance by NYC’s black music scene in the 30s. Happy St P’s Day! youtu.be/Vy66Z7spQzM?...

I reckon Jessie Buckley has won on the frock front - she has that gorgeous cherry red and pink colour combo which always reminds me of Marilyn Monroe’s dress and backdrop for Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend number in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. Classic Hollywood 👌♥️🩷

It’s not often that a wee dog named after a character in one classic Christmas movie meets another wee dog named after a character in a different Christmas classic - but that’s what happened today in the park when Zuzu met Dudley! (Just wishing I had taken a picture!)

Did the hairdresser on Mr Burton think it was set in the 1970s?!

Delighted to get the chance to watch #MrBurton on BBC1. I wasn’t familiar with Philip B until I was doing my Ella Logan research & discovered that he rec’d her for the part in the doomed 1964 Broadway show Kelly - from which her character was written out by the re-writing team, led by Mel Brooks!

Meet Mary Gordon - single mother & proud Scot who became one of Hollywood’s best-loved character actresses in the 1930s and was adored by the likes of James Cagney, Katharine Hepburn & John Ford. Thanks to the @sundaypost.com for letting me tell her story & giving her a great spread! #MaryGordon

@kermodemovie.bsky.social Hi Mark, just been listening to your Screen Shot on Frankenstein and thought you might enjoy my story about my great-granny’s cousin who was tossed down the well by the Monster at the start of Bride of Frankenstein! She really deserves to be better known …

I'm just a lowly art historian, but in moments like these I always think back to one early sign of Trump's wanton, pointless destructiveness: his demolition of the priceless & irreplaceable Art Deco relief sculptures on facade of the Bonwit Teller building, which he tore down to build Trump Tower

Bloody hell, the BBC Radio Scotland news at 4pm actually listed Michelle McManus getting a new job as one of its headlines 😆. I suppose it would be good news for Radio Scotland listeners if it meant there was less chance of accidentally hearing her “interviewing” someone on the radio …

On this day, 40 years ago, I was introduced to what is still one of my favourite TV series - and it led me to what is still my favourite series of books ... EF Benson's glorious #MappandLucia series, dramatised by @channel4tv.bsky.social and with the peerless cast of McEwan, Scales & Hawthorne.

In 1897, the Parisian-born artist Alfred Sisley took his final trip to his ancestral home of Britain, when he married his long-term partner Eugenie Lescouzec after a 30-year engagement. They travelled along the Welsh coast to Langland Bay where this work was painted.
