Santo was a megastar in Mexico. A household name in a way few wrestlers have ever accomplished. There's literally statues of the man, one of which is located outside of a Santo Museum.

I've still not seen all of them (I think I've managed about half), but '...vs the Monsters' is still probably my favourite. The bit with Dracula appearing at the top of that house in broad daylight rules.

Like I said, Lorena Velázquez was a regular in his films, and always a blast - if you've seen 'Santo vs the Vampire Women', you'll know her. She even starred in the offshoot 'Las Luchadoras' films as a wrestler, too. She was a well-known actress, and continued acting until she passed away in 2024.

And there's Tinieblas! Usually as himself, though not always (watch '...vs the Monsters to see him as "Franquestain"). He's not just in Santo films either, he also regularly appears beside Blue Demon, Mil Mascaras & others. This is from 'The Fist of Death', the first of Santo's final two films.

Tinieblas, in his gold and black mask and outfit, stands at the foot of a small set of stairs, which lead up to an altar. On the stairs is the villainess Kungyan - played by Grace Renat - who is wearing a skimpy black bra with some decorative strips hanging from it, and a black sarong. Not to suggest she's busty, but I think her bra is made from the same stuff they support bridges with. If you've seen the film you'll know what I mean.

Oh and behind her is a henchman dressed like a ninja in a black outfit with red headband.

Also of possible interest - the patriarch of the Guerrero family, Gory Guerrero, appears in a few (IMDB only has him listed for two but it's definitely more than that). Usually appearing in the matches that happen, though - like other wrestlers who appear - sometimes in costume during fights.

Another common thing: reusing monster outfits. Not even just from Lucha movies - Some of the monsters in 'Santo & Blue Demon vs the Monsters' were reused from the delightful 'Ship of Monsters' (which featured regular Santo co-star Lorena Velázquez). Including Ciclope!

This is common with most of them. The typical format will be the first 10 minutes or so are all about the villain, their plot etc, then hard cut to a match with Santo. Same with the Blue Demon ones. Each movie will generally feature at least two matches.

I remember I used to watch him on the old 1PW shows and the likes, and even though he was still new at the time, he was the one guy above all others who didn't look out of place against the big name imports from the likes of ROH and TNA.
