I know I’m repeating myself here, but you need to come up with a different plan. Our taxes are already too high! We pay over $9000/year for a 1000sqft condo. Make that make sense?!?!

We need enhanced safety, cleaner streets, sidewalks repaired, safe places for our kids to play. Not more of these areas. Each time I’ve walked by during the day, they’re being used by drug users and people passed out on the stage. Totally unacceptable waste of funds.

Glad to hear the part about decentralization of services. This summer has been awful on Metcalfe St where centre 507 has been at the library. We need other wards to start doing their part!

The sidewalks are unsafe, particularly in winter. From what I’ve experienced over the past 4 years, they’ve continued to deteriorate and now have the added issue of overflowing trash cans to navigate.

This is what consultation should be. Bravo to the community association for making it happen.

Our taxes are high enough already.

I’ve called anchor 3 times and each time they’ve told me to call police. One incident involved a clearly inebriated person aggressively approaching pedestrians while shouting, the other 2 involved open drug use at a nearby crosswalk at 8am. Anchor couldn’t have been less helpful, support our police.

Good start. Now let’s see that happen regularly. One day is great, but not enough to effect a lasting change.

We need more visible police presence in Centretown. Centre 507 needs to be accountable for crime occurring on their property. Our neighbourhood is unsafe and unsightly. Do better, you’re supposed to be advocating for EVERYONE here, not just the unhoused and addicted.

You know what else we want? Sidewalks that are safe, no drug paraphernalia, no urine soaked alleys, no overflowing garbage cans, the ability to park our bikes and not have them stolen and/or stripped, parks with grass and soft surfaces for our kids —without alcohol consumption. The list goes on…

Hopefully you’ll be gathering feedback in other ways too? Given this is scheduled for the second last Sunday afternoon of the summer before school starts, most of us already have plans with the family.

Still waiting for Queen St sidewalks between O’Connor and Kent to be cleaned

Your response to online comments that push back on your inaction is always very defensive, usually ending with a “!”. Could a better approach be acknowledging that you might be falling short for some of us in the ward? I’m sure you know that there’s much room for improvement?

I have. Your staff responds, never you.

This post seems disingenuous. Once the election is over, will you still care about the sidewalks? I’ve raised this issue many times over the past 4 years and it never seems to matter, except coincidentally, at election time.

Queen St between O’Connor and The Hill Times office needs attention, especially around the LRT station. Sidewalks are filthy.

Downtown BIA has hired people to clean up and sweep their areas and are looking great. I’ve not seen the same in Centretown

The sidewalks are filthy, garbage overflowing. More needs to be done

Can you focus on the basics-cleaning up the sidewalks, picking up trash and cigarette butts, and making it safer to walk our neighbourhood?

I’m already paying over $9000 in taxes for a 1000sqft condo. A blanket tax increase is unacceptable.

What will you do differently this time? Any lessons learned? The neighbourhood has gone downhill over the past few years, do you accept any accountability for that?

Less open drug use, alcohol in parks and bike thefts would also drive tourism and make our neighbourhood safer for everyone
000
gingermary.bsky.social @gingermary.bsky.social · 19/06/2026
I wish this statement was true. It would be great to see Centretown become family friendly. Unfortunately, we’re a long way from that being possible.

@arieltroster.com why are you voting for parks in our neighbourhood to include alcohol? Don’t we have enough problems? Can’t parks just be safe for kids and families to enjoy? Minto Park McNabb Park Primrose Park

@arieltroster.com what is your response to today’s ctv article www.ctvnews.ca/ottawa/artic... When will you get serious about protecting residents of Somerset and cleaning up our neighbourhood?

Ottawa wards with the highest and lowest crime rates in 2025
Two downtown Ottawa wards had the highest crime rates in Ottawa last year, while 15 wards across the city saw a decrease in the crime rate in 2025.

Why was this area allowed to reach this point of devastation. Was there no oversight prior to this?

311 needs to step up their response time. Also, the community liaison officer needs to be more visible. Our neighbourhood needs to be cleaned up! Enough is enough. Between the public urinating, open drug use, discarded drug paraphernalia and overflowing trash bins, it’s a disgrace.

First, I’m not a tradesperson, I just believe in treating people fairly. Second, not every journeyman is in the union. Third, I know a young person who is a recent red seal grad who had to take a loan to cover rent and bills while they were in school (EI isn’t adequate, but that’s a separate issue)

Will the tradespeople who completed their red seal during the one year gap in the bursary program be grandfathered? Not fair that they had to accumulate so much debt to finish their training since the previous program ended in March 2025.

Will the apprentice completion grant be extended to tradespeople who completed their red seal during the past year since the previous grant was ended (March 2025). Seems unfair that people who fell into that one year gap miss out.

Have you explored alternative options to the very expensive one you’ve proposed? I’ve seen excellent suggestions that are more cost effective. Still waiting for info as to why your suggestion is superior. What safeguards will be implemented to ensure it’s used as intended and available for everyone.

Can you provide details regarding the Jackson building? The last thing we need in Centretown is another homeless shelter. Is this what is being proposed?

I don’t think it’s an either/or situation. Support is definitely needed, as is increased enforcement.

Agree to disagree on that. Tourism brings in millions of dollars each year. The city needs that money and businesses rely on it. It’s naive to think tourism doesn’t matter.

I’m at Rideau/Byward every day, it’s gotten worse.Much worse. I regularly see open needle use, people behaving aggressively & erratically (within viewing distance of the new police office).LRT stn is scary to enter,so much so that I’ve had to call an uber to get home instead of being able to use it.

We need more community police presence. Two stabbings at Rideau Centre in 5 days just proves that the current system isn’t working. We deserve to feel safe in our neighbourhood. Our community has deteriorated vastly over the past couple of years. Change is needed!

I think it depends on their specific background. For example, I can think of at least one career politician who would’ve benefited from some experience outside of government. Generalizations like this just add to the divisiveness that’s pervasive today, not helpful at all.
