I keep seeing far too many "cute" pet rats that are obese. Pets are not cute when they are obese. It's unhealthy and can drastically affect lifespan. Stop feeding into the chonky = cute lie and pay attention to your pet.

There are so many varieties of rats, some colours can appear similar if you don't see them often. Here's an example of what a UK mink looks like compared to Lavender. #ratsofbluesky

Anise has had her second and final litter, a nice number of 6. I'm very hopeful for this litter and it could really help build one of my lines. #ratsofbluesky

I don't recommend moving house. What a stress and financial black hole, especially when you have to move 50 rats and break 2 phones too. I need a break.

Hopefully this weekend I find out what variety this boy is. Not super obvious in the pic but he has ruby eyes. I'm quite new to breeding blue based rats so I'm keen to find out from some other ratty breeder friends what he is. #RatsofBluesky

They're not bsky, but I really do have some of the best pet homes. So grateful and thankful to have pet homes and friends that are currently looking after some of my rats while I move house. This entire two part house move would have been so hard without them. Not long until the final move.

Gingerbread Rats @gingerbreadrats.co.uk · 15/01/2025

As a breeder AND pet home, I honestly can't stand it when someone asks to "buy" rats. Or say they're a first time buyer. Rats are pets and little souls, not items for pure commerce even though I do have take a small homing fee to comp for their care while here. I home my kittens, I don't sell them.

060

Gingerbread Rats @gingerbreadrats.co.uk · 15/01/2025

It's a rat show weekend and I don't have any good prospects to enter in the varieties section. Sigh. I love big shows but I'd like to be able to compete. Poor litter planning on my part and a house move isn't really the one.

Why pay the price a breeder is asking for rats when a pet shop is cheaper? 1. Most breeders (NFRS members) are ethical and don't breed to demand and their rats are first and foremost, pets. 2. You have support and advice for the whole life of your rats if you need it. Do your research!

Gingerbread Rats @gingerbreadrats.co.uk · 21/11/2024

MYTH: "Well bred rats don't have health issues like rescues/pet shop rats do" Breeders do try to improve health but sometimes genetics says no and issues can crop up so there's no guarantees. This is why breeders ask for health updates so they can make informed decisions about their lines.
