I really enjoyed this beautiful, enchanting Women’s Fiction relationship story set in France that carried so much truth & wisdom. The Village Café in the Loire held my attention from the first page to the last. @gillplusfive.bsky.social @boldwoodbooks.bsky.social www.cindylspear.com/news/review-...

With all the negativity in the press about adolescents, it's great to have interviewed some really great teens who show how enterprising and brilliant young people can be. In today's Times. www.thetimes.com/business-mon...

Am trying to write something a bit different, which is a challenge for me but a nice one! One piece of advice on the course I'm doing is to write it by hand. I just tried. I managed a page of notes and I JUST COULDN'T TAKE IT ANYMORE!

That's clever thinking! I desperately wanted my boy to be 'Where's Wally' (easy, plus he'd look SOOO cute. Sadly, looking SOOO cute wasn't on his wish-list) x

Has anyone sold something at auction to raise a little extra cash in recent years? Doesn't have to be an enormous profit or an amazing sum of money or anything like that. It's for a piece I'm writing #journorequest UK based.

Yeah, I'm holding out for that retrospective appreciation that should be coming my way in about a decade's time! I appreciate everything my Mum did for me so much more now I realise how hard it must have been behind the scenes... :)

Hallowe'en is an expensive, spooky NIGHTMARE! Luckily, I never bought into the Elf on the Shelf. Always thought it was too creepy. Although, as my son said once, 'you should get one mum. He's really small. I don't think he could kill you...' 😆

Also, yes I did buy the costume. I tried to fashion one myself but he was having none of it. I gave into pressure. But he's very happy!

I have five kids, but as I lived in France until April last year, this is my first World Book Day. Only my youngest (9) wanted to participate, and it was so cute/such fun. But I couldn't help be relieved I never had to try organising FIVE costumes. I love books but... 😬

Like all authors I've had my share of criticism and 1* reviews. But that makes the thoughtful, wonderful reviews all the more special. Thank you to everyone who's taken the time to read and rate/review 'Midnight in Paris' - I am so thrilled that readers are loving it!

Now I have the opening to an intriguing thriller, and am feeling zen. Writing kind of creates a 'brain break' for me - gives me time off from myself and more perspective. Now all I need is sleep! People sometimes say 'don't forget to take a break!' For me, writing IS a break. At least, sometimes :)

Gillian Harvey @gillplusfive.bsky.social · 09/02/2025

I don't always write at the weekends. But this morning I realised I was furious, anxious, annoyed, exhausted, tearful for no apparent reason (except, ungrateful kids, lack of sleep, relentless chores that is). So I decided rather than smash up the kitchen, I'd write.

There's this moment in the day when I take a break from my work, my husband goes out to collect our five kids from school. And I am alone. It's 20 minutes every day max. I never really do anything special. And I love it when my kids walk in the door. But in that tiny 20 minute window I just breathe

There's a weird kind of excitement once a book reaches 65,000 words and you see the end in sight. You know this is just the start of things - that edits will definitely be needed. But also YOU ARE GOING TO FINISH THIS!!
