100
Gilles HENRI @gillesh38.bsky.social · 02/07/2026
son problème, c'est qu'il les imite tellement bien qu'on ne comprend pas que c'est une blague. C'est un grand incompris en fait.

Gilles HENRI @gillesh38.bsky.social · 02/07/2026

Thank you for your answer Naomi. FYI, Finland emits around 7.5 t CO2/yr/cap, more than the world average (6.6 ). Would entire world live like them, CC would go still faster. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...

I can wait, it's not a problem. When you'll have time, please provide me with references for the number of fatalities, loss of GDP, or any cost you can identify for climate change. On this topics, you can read these reflexions written by myself. threadreaderapp.com/thread/18574...

why isn't it easy if the cost is only a few percent of GDP ? you pay much more as taxes for education or health. Why wouldn't you pay that to save the world and assure an eternal energy resource ? what is difficult ?

I'm discussing billions of lives, not millions. Without FF, world population never exceeded 1 billion, and biggest cities had only 1 or 2 millions of inhabitants, draining resources of whole empires to feed them.
100
Gilles HENRI @gillesh38.bsky.social · 02/07/2026
and if it has a big cost, it must be compared with the cost of climate change : do you know these two costs ?
100
Gilles HENRI @gillesh38.bsky.social · 02/07/2026
if transition means = keeping the same standard of living without FF, yes I do think it's impossible. Of course living without emitting CO2 is possible, humanity has lived like that during hundreds of millennia. But with a much lower standard of living.
100
Gilles HENRI @gillesh38.bsky.social · 02/07/2026
Precisely they are islands that would most benefit from phasing out all FF , and that have plenty of renewable resources. so they should be the first places where it happens. Why didn't it happen if it's easy ?

Gilles HENRI @gillesh38.bsky.social · 02/07/2026
no, sorry. If plane were the only hard point, Cuba would have solved all problems except planes, which is far from being the case. I prefer looking at reality than at experts reports.
000
Gilles HENRI @gillesh38.bsky.social · 02/07/2026
side remark : I don't know what a "climate change point of view" is. My point of view is only : rationality, and rational decisions are based on cost-benefit analysis. And here there is a problem : no cost is really known, neither for CC nor for the transition.

or Cuba which is literally strangulated by the embargo on oil : why don't they develop a FF free economy ?
100
Gilles HENRI @gillesh38.bsky.social · 02/07/2026
Iceland that produces much more renewable energy (non intermittent, hydro and geothermal) than the total energy need per capita. Yet they emit more CO2 than the world average. Why ?
100
Gilles HENRI @gillesh38.bsky.social · 02/07/2026
I don't have to imagine, I'm just wondering ; if it's possible without a large cost, why has no country achieved it, never and nowhere? including countries that would greatly benefit from an fossil-free economy such as :

Gilles HENRI @gillesh38.bsky.social · 02/07/2026
and how do you drive planes and ships if you ban their use as "fuels" ?
100
Gilles HENRI @gillesh38.bsky.social · 02/07/2026
really ? how do you make cheap steel, copper, plastics, lubricants, fertilizers etc ... without FF ? where is it done, if it's "not problematic" ?

Gilles HENRI @gillesh38.bsky.social · 02/07/2026

100
Gilles HENRI @gillesh38.bsky.social · 02/07/2026
It's not really sarcasm. It's just a reminding of what a modern society without FF really means. All your examples are still very far from it.
100
Gilles HENRI @gillesh38.bsky.social · 02/07/2026
here are your countries in the CO2-GDP graphs. Not exactly the lower-left corner. Poverty is still the most efficient way not to produce CO2, by far.

Gilles HENRI @gillesh38.bsky.social · 02/07/2026
Oh really ? I didn't know that Norway was producing steel, cement, plastics , copper, semi-conductors, imported goods by plane or ships, etc ... without FF ? that's interesting, do you have refs ?
200
Gilles HENRI @gillesh38.bsky.social · 02/07/2026
Nobody can deny something that has already actually happened. But what has actually happened ? Demographic transition ? Yes. Limited decoupling ? Yes. Modern society without FF ? No
110
Gilles HENRI @gillesh38.bsky.social · 02/07/2026
you will notice that "decoupled" economies like California are all very rich countries that have margins of improvement. There is no poor "decoupled" economy.
100
Gilles HENRI @gillesh38.bsky.social · 02/07/2026
if you gain k% per year of carbon intensity, your economy can grow by x.k % per year and the carbon emissions will decrease by (1-x).k % per year for any value of x < 1. But it doesn't prove that you can reach zero emissions with the current GDP because it can be limited in time.
200
Gilles HENRI @gillesh38.bsky.social · 02/07/2026
"decoupling" only means that the carbon intensity can improve, which nobody denies. You can of coure make some improvements and use less fossil fuels for the same economy, and so there is a possible margin of economic growth with decreasing emissions. For instance ⤵️
