I will say if you run PowerShell (pwsh - cross platform vs no "Windows PowerShell") it feels a lot more like modern posix shells. Tab completion, etc. is built in.

I always saw the multiple output streams (e.g. about_Output_Streams) as a good thing. Something that kills me in the posix space is when people use stderr as the messaging stream. In PowerShell you can write to the host for the user, but the return is an object.

The coreutils pain point is frustrating, but MS did release github.com/microsoft/co... (it has it's own pain points). It's annoying it's not on the box by default. I agree that sometimes a whole module/package to solve a small thing can be a pain.

Six months to land PowerShell tab completion in shtab (Python, argparse). Final boss: `[\\/]` in a Python template collapses to `[\/]`. A character class with exactly one slash. The forward one. Windows paths silently stopped completing. Escaping is undefeated 🫠 github.com/tqdm/shtab/pull/212

A manager "talking at" is a waste of everyone's time. IMO as a manager, if I've given advice I'm on the hook for the result. If I gave advice and you ignored it, then I can't cover for you. I highly recommend reading Never Split the Difference.

Just came back in my feed. My 2c: "Is it a bad time to give you some feedback?" allows the other side an out and let's them protect their autonomy. It's better to start from a true commitment vs a false one. A false "yes" means they're not gonna listen, they're just letting you talk at them.

I will also say, it's like knowing English and having to learn another language where the subject ordering is different. Just takes some time and practice. There are some great "translators" available. "How do you write ln -s /foo /bar in pwsh?"
120
Gilbert Sanchez (💻 HeyItsGilbert) @gilbertsanchez.com · 27/04/2026
If you had to shrink touch, mkdir, and ln into one command you get New-File. PowerShell does sort of stray from "One Thing" philosophy, but that's more from how it's pipeline works + it's OOP nature. Means the pipeline handles more than stdio.
