Barn swallow pair going for their breakfast.
These were really challenging to photograph and I only came away with a few decent photos, but this one is my favourite in a long, long time. 🪶

The place I often visit has this perfect perch and background for a kingfisher, and if you keep quiet, they aren't all that bothered. Took the 2X with me for once and got this guy to pose for me. 🪶

I'm not yet very good at capturing scenes which, amongst my technically sound and pleasing photos, really stand out to me. However, I 𝘢𝘮 slowly getting there. 🪶

This kingfisher was sat there for something like 3 seconds. I got a couple photos, all blurry except this one. Sometimes you just need to get lucky, nothing else helps.

Almost didn't get this photograph, on account of looking in the other direction. But I heard something moving behind me and turned just in time.
I've ready been asked three times if this was AI, so I guess I'm doing something right.

Coming back from my summer downtime, and this one is a stunner! 🪶
I don't have access to my usual software at the moment, so the highlights are nuked, but I still love this photo.
No kings, only kinglets.

Out of 500 or so photos, around 20 are with this guy in any kind of normal pose. In the rest, he's pointing straight up or down. Just nuthatch things.

Bit of a different post today - a selection from the pocket camera (Fuji F30) I took with me to work this week.
This kind of photography is very different to what I usually do, but it makes for a nice change of pace and some fresh perspective.

April is turning out to be Heron Month.
This isn't Dennis (I think he's solo this year), but instead some neighbours of his that I watched fly over me several times. They finally decided to land and did this slow, dance-like descent onto the pond.

Hi everyone, meet Dennis. Dennis is a Grey Heron living at a nearby pond.
Dennis starts its day by flying to this bank, looking for fish, catching nothing, then waddling off.
Dennis is, if nothing else, very persistent.

Motivational quip of the day: Always make the best of a situation.
More specifically, when you screw up and scare off a bird, at least try and get a decent photo as it flies away.

Got one of this year's Top 12 yesterday. But I must admit I'm having trouble identifying it! I'm sure I'll know better in time, but if anyone can tell what this is, do let me know.

I am quite fond of pigeons, even if they don't like me nearly as much. Wood pigeons are incredibly skittish where I live, so having the opportunity to admire one from relatively close range is a rare treat.

Snow! This means 3 things.
1. I get to sit indoors with a mug of something hot whenever I want
2. Lovely crunch underfoot whenever I am not indoors with said mug
2. I need to shovel the parking lot before the crunch stops

Ibis! The bird, not the thing in the camera. This one was very patient with me as I found a safe place to slam the brakes and scramble for my camera.
Only got 3 shots in before someone in a camper van sped by and spooked it. Oh well.

I normally try to avoid straight up birds on a (single) stick, but little guys are excepted. This time, the little guy in question is a local nuthatch, looking where it can fly off to so I need to find it again (for the 16th time in a row).

White geese! Apparently a very common farm animal, but I wouldn't guess it by how rarely I see them.
This guy hissed at us for passing too close (he was taking a nap in the middle of a walking path).

Blue tit pit stop.
A lush green canopy makes for a pretty backdrop, but a bare, dried tree means more attention for the bird - and more importantly, it works just as well for a quick rest.
Taken October 2024 near Tihany.
