Boston is at a critical moment in planning for coastal flooding and sea level rise. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is developing a once-in-a-generation plan that could represent a $9–$10.5 billion investment in Boston’s coastal resilience, with District 1 communities on the front line.

When a rental property becomes a condominium, the people who already call that building home should never be treated as an afterthought. This ordinance provides tenants with meaningful notice, relocation assistance, the right to purchase, and stronger protections for seniors 1/

The Red Shirts are back—and Boston’s young people will make the program their own! I was proud to introduce the budget amendment that made this investment possible, reimagining the historic Red Shirts as the Boston City Youth Corps.

On my first day back from maternity leave, I filed legislation to give City of Boston employees 100% pay for all 12 weeks of parental leave. No parent should have to choose between bonding with their baby and paying the bills. 12 weeks of leave should mean 12 weeks of economic security.

Today we commemorate Juneteenth, a day of liberation, resilience, and freedom. On June 19, 1865, General Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas, to issue Order No. 3, finally enforcing the emancipation of enslaved people more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation.
