True! that is a very big issue. But a lot of these posts, (while completely valid) could have been avoided with just background checking the artist on commissions before hand. A lot of people just wing it and get jipped or have their time wasted. There has to be an effort for your own protection too

I’d probably also make it clear that if the artist took long enough that chargeback protections expire that you’d not be interested in going through with commissioning them. If they inch past that than you know their bullshitting and now you have a safety net to fall on.

That’s another thing too. As much as people go “oooh I’m scared of asking cuz they’ll get mad” I notice commissioners like.doing that in reverse? Like now if the artist makes just 1 mistake they’ll go right to a call out post, get passive aggressive, or bottle it up and let it go at the worst time.

That does seem to be the case for a bit of what I’m seeing, though there are ones where the artist clearly is not taking accountability and leaving people on read for months, or promising work and then not delivering. Both sides are at fault, but it’s being blown out of proportion and handled wrong

That being said, I agree that there IS a problem in the community with commissions, and there DOES need to be an improvement. But we are just not at that point yet, and due to how money is I don’t think it will soon. YOU need to take precautions to ensure your safety when commissioning people.
