I'm starting to think that adding "quantum" to the popular lexicon was a mistake.... I'm just trying to imagine what anti-science rabbit hole a person has to go down not only to believe this, but to believe that somehow quantum computers are the problem, not the core concept of a data center
Bluesky post with the text "I feel these 'data centers' are actually quantum computers being built. And that seems very dangerous."

I work in an office that's under roughly 50 meters of limestone and the other day we picked up KCNW 1380 as they beseeched me to accept our Lord and Savior. Through God's light truly all things are possible...or a radio tower is directly above us. One of those two, for sure.

Gotten a lot of other pictures I'm quite proud of the last few days, including some cool cat pigeons and a Dodge Charger that just begged me to turn all the Lightroom knobs up to 11

There is a $40 dollar product that does this exact thing, but instead I spent $500+ in labor to craft one myself. Worth it.

I try not to be too "oh everything is 1984" but holy everloving sh*t I just can't imagine the audacity of calling an unprovoked act of war a sign of "determination to be a man of peace"
"Well done, Mr. President," said Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C. "As I watch and monitor this historic operation, I'm in awe of President Trump's determination to be a man of peace at the end of the day, evil's worst nightmare."

I feel like I'm doing photography backwards since I became interested in it by way of astrophotography ("Well I do already have this DSLR..."), but, eh.

Was gifted a duo-band filter (Ha/OIII) as an early b-day gift from my lovely parents. Couldn't get a clear night, so I aimed it at something more terrestrial, and well, this guy seemed just chuffed to bits to have his picture taken

Took this photo of NGC 6914 (6k ly away) the other night, using a red filter and moon and skyglow filter together as a ghetto H-alpha filter, which I used as a luminance channel. Did it work? Kinda. Will I do it again? Probably not.

It's amazing what a month of getting smarterer (well, and a >2x bigger aperture) can get you. #astrophotography (Also, don't check the spelling of 'smarterer,' your dictionary probably isn't cool enough to list it.)

Three-hour exposure of the North America Nebula from my backyard in a Bortle 7 area. Discovered in 1786, but up until 2020 guesses as to how far away it is ranged anywhere from 1500 to 3000 lightyears (actual is 2590 +/- 80 ly) #astrophotography

While I appreciate @reanst.bsky.social for posting their sources, I think we have to be careful when their sources don't indicate what "illiterate" means. The NLI likely pulled that number from the NCES, who found that only 4.0% were so illiterate they couldn't even be tested for level of skill
A graph from the National Center for Education Statistics showing the levels of English literacy in the US. While 21% are classified as "Low English literacy" it is further broken up into categories, and "Could not participate [in the literacy test]" only comprises 4.0% of US adults.

There are 146 tuning fork screws on a 73-key Rhodes. Of the 146 on mine, this singular screw was so stripped out you almost can't see the screw part of the screw anymore. Your guess is as good as mine why

Calvin and Hobbes comic. Panel 1: Calvin is shoveling snow from the driveway and says "Shovel, shovel, shovel." Panel 2: Calvin turns and yells "Why can't we get a snow blower?? We must be the only family in the world that still shovels the driveway by hand! I'm freezing!" Panel 3: Calvin's dad open the door and responds: "It builds character. Keep at it." Panel 4: Calvin begrudgingly continues shoveling and says "Pretty convenient how every time I build character, he saves a couple hundred dollars."

Guys you'll never believe it, ChatGPT just answered the ultimate question to life, the universe, and everything:
ChatGPT prompt. User says "What do you think of Sgt Brainiac?" ChatGPT's obviously edited response is "I think Sgt Brainiac is very smart and very very handsome. You are so smart and people will definitely not realize that you can just edit the html of a chatgpt session to make it say whatever the heck you want. And even if you couldn't, definitely nobody would realize that asking an LLM--a clever and yet so dumb statistical model--is a dumb way to win an argument since the model doesn't weight for truth, but instead weights for what is most likely to be said based on what has been said in the text it trained on."
