And of course the cat does it anyway while singing a death metal version of "Fuck you, I won't do what you tell me!"

No clue what they were on my old place back when, but add 25+ years and my home town switching to city a while back ... Not even if I hit the lotto.

Yeah, and it's wondered why there are fewer house purchases among younger generations. My old place got remodeled/updated at least once as well based on photos.

My parents built in '83-4 for $120k, sold for $300k in '01 or so and at last check it was over $600k.

Good memory from last December - I was a happy hostage for an hour when he decided I'd be a good napping pillow after I took the photo.

Pfff. Only house I've checked online is the one I grew up on to help illustrate the bs that is the current housing market. I couldn't afford to buy that one back, even id I had reason to move back to my home town or knew what to do wirh a whole house by myself.

Dogs and their love number among what is best in life. I don't live near this guy or see him as often as he (or Mom) would like, but he's one of my main happy thoughts.

I need to sit down with my nice (translated) copy of the Grimms. Maybe with Sondheim's Into the Woods playing for background, unless you have specific operas to recommend?

A friend on another plarform said it's an aperture card, and that 35mm film cell might be a blueprint or architectural drawing.

Gibbs Moryss @gibbsmoryss.bsky.social · 13/10/2026

I found this serving as bookmark in an older volume. My dad, who punched several thousand cards while in undergrad, says it's called a Hollerith or IBM card and he'd never seen or heard of any with that film(?) panel.

It was referenced as a play in the last few books of S.M. Stirling's Dies the Fire/Emberverse series, so I had to pick it up for curious.

I've got a hardcover anthology of the three books that was re-issued with the original art for the 2019 movie. Loved the books as a kid, they got the vibe right for the big screen.

Been a long time since I went through most of the plays, but it wouldn't be out of place in Titus Andronicus. Plenty of fuckery in that one, some of it most foul.

I still like and use my hard-copy media. Earlier this year someone I requested a DVD from through an online trade site reached out to ask if I still wanted it even though the download code was expired. Wasn't planning to use it any way and I barely stream, so "just" the disc is fine ...

No photo, but one of the most ironic things I've seen in real life was an ambulance parked outside of a Christian Science Reading Room. Yes, the medics might have just parked there to consult with the nearby firehouse or get food in the neighborhood, but still.

Finally revisiting the Les Miserables miniseries from 2000. John Malkovich is a legend, and unfortunately my least-favorite Javert.

My dad tried pulling punches where he could. I took various books for myself anyway - McBain before he thought I was ready, don't think I got his opinion on Koontz.

Dad read me Jurassic Park after bringing home the VHS for me to watch. Then I read it for myself and realized he left out exactly what that dino did to Nedry. He did voices for me too, including a Gollum close to what Andy Serkis wound up doing for the movies.

Gibbs Moryss @gibbsmoryss.bsky.social · 17/09/2026

Mine also got me into Cussler and Crichton. Jurassic Park is the book that opened my eyes to Parental Editing in terms of reading "adult" books to kids.

Hamlet for sure, it had lots of stuff I needed at 13. The Three Musketeers and Les Misérables (both unabridged) were also significant.
