there is no such thing as "age verification." All "age verification" is actually "identity verification." You can coat it in glitter and "privacy-preserving" wrapping paper. But in the end, mandating age verification means mandating surveillance be built into software and hardware. Period.

It's more that awareness of the incidents linked to Flock cameras has reached a critical mass in the public consciousness, I think. In the past 12 months, there's been plenty of reports of Flock incorrectly identifying vehicles, working with ICE, and being used to track women seeking abortions.

Flock's cameras are not only "surveillance bad" bad, they're also "warrantless search" bad, "lying to get access to public funds" bad, and "does not do well the thing it solely exists to do" bad. Though to be fair, I think "surveillance bad" kinda stands on its own as sufficient reason.

As a security professional, I must implore you to not use end of life software. Unmaintained software is significant security risk. If you need office software and don't want to give Microsoft your money or Google your data, try something like LibreOffice that is actively maintained and patched.

When my little guy got sick and needed daily oral meds, I had great success with pill pockets. They smell like treats (and presumably taste) and you can just smush pills right in them. Good luck with your fuzzy buddy, I hope you both feel better now that they're home.
