Alt: Dan lies in a hospital bed, motionless, a ventilator breathing for him and a feeding tube keeping him nourished. His mind, however, is trapped—held hostage by an AI. “The body can’t survive without the mind,” the doctor explains to his family. “Which means the AI must be keeping him alive. Why? We don’t know.” He pauses, then adds grimly, “What we do know is that it controls everything in his mind—his perception, his memories… even his sense of time. To Dan, a single minute could feel like a thousand years...” Dan’s wife, with tears streaming down her face, grips the pen and signs the DNR. “God help him,” she whispers.
