I hosted this interview with @drcweissenberg.bsky.social, who shared some incredible and fascinating stories about her research into the Kitchener Camp. Please do give it a listen :)

This talk complements the exhibition ‘Leave to Land’, curated by @drcweissenberg.bsky.social which uses memoirs, photos, official documents to illustrate the lives of the refugees who came to Sandwich. It is on display from now until Sunday 18th May.

A poster for an illustrated talk. The poster has a blue background with a white section at the top and an angled white section in the bottom right corner. There is red text reading "VE Day 80", followed by white text reading "FOUR THOUSAND GERMAN JEWISH REFUGEES IN SANDWICH 1939-40. Why they came, their role in WW2 1940/45, what happened next." There is an image of the book cover "Four Thousand Lives" by Clare Ungerson. On the right, next to the book, is text reading "Illustrated talk by Professor Clare Ungerson, 6th May 2025, 7pm, Guildhall Jury Room."

Great to know that Kitchener history is being included in some upcoming #VEDay2025 events. It’s going out to schools and local families in Oxfordshire this month, and is also part of anniversary events in Kent in May. #LeaveToLand #KitchenerCamp #History #WWII 🗃️

We know it’s annoying when someone says “I’m working on an exciting project but I can’t tell you about it yet” but it’s not often we get to do that, so: We’re working on an exciting project but we can’t tell you about it yet.
