With the news from Brazil, I think we need to be clear eyed on our strategy. We need to target and excise the sources of reactionary social reproduction. Billionaire money is a part of it but the problems are more bottom-up/middle-out

The Syrian Refugee crisis was the spark for the populist right that the overly online and myopic hold GamerGate to be.

A very 2020s form of sexism is all those memes about HR smiling as they turn down your application or otherwise rule over you. Dating apps have got to be the source of that resentment.

If a politician does hollow out, it usually when they’ve been in there for multiple terms *and* their ambitions for higher office seem foreclosed. See Gillibrand. It’s sloth, not ambition, that’s the real poison

I think the lesson there is Americans are tolerant of bad behavior if they don’t think you’re otherwise fucking up. I think the reflecting pool, west wing demolition, etc got salience because of liberation day, Iran, ICE, etc. If he was a do nothing president people wouldve looked the other way

4chan is the origin point of so many political and social ills. Its reputation is mostly earned. But funny enough you have to have spent actual time there to realize 90% of the boards are for (insert hobby here) elitism where the racism feels more perfunctory than anything else.

The taboo against anti semitism extending even to the right, like the unilateral world order, was an outlier of the post WW2 world. Whether we’re in a death spiral or just a “regression to the mean” remains to be seen.

I think a bearish stock market would be the final straw. Most Plan Trusters are old people who don’t really drive much and are sympathetic to bombing Iran - but love seeing their investments go up and up

I know there's really not much to be done about it but what bothers me most about politics these days is how we just can't be adults. The idea that middle class Americans today have it uniquely bad on any dimension is just such an embarassing sentiment, even if things can be better.

Wokeness will never win, and it will never fully go away. Both truths come down to the reality that at least 70% of people want it but only for their own group

Goldilocks racism goes back to Ancient Greece. It has a long lineage in western cultures. I wonder if it’s a global trend.

If we’re gonna win long term, deliverism doesn’t work and you can’t rely on generational charisma. You’re gonna have to destroy the sources of reactionary social reproduction. If Trump can knock down one on his own then have at it!

Right populism treats the political community as a larger version of a biological community. It’s easy to extend the biological picture to a monarchy, aristocracy, etc. In a world where there’s mass franchise the natural conclusion is that the democracy is only for the volk.

I think far right populism is successful because it is the modern ideology most compatible with our base lizard brain.

2/2 Americans have short memories. We don’t experience the Great Depression or late 1970s hardships that truly change politics such that one side runs the table for a while. The multiracial conspiracist dipshit coalition will both fall and then reassemble quickly like skeleton enemies in RPGs.

Bear LinkedIn @ghostofglass.bsky.social · 02/10/2026
1/2 Their coalition is too scatter brained and contradictory to have enduring longstanding power. However, I think they’ll be able to return quick. They’ll “gen z boss and a mini”, “HR wants you drafted then dead”, and balloon pop video a multiracial misogynist and anti LGBT coalition.

I dont think that makes sense. If you are humanized, that’s bad. But if you are generic and post a link to a charity, it seems too flippant and thus insulting. There’s just no good answer here

I’m reminded of a study I once read about where people more frequently report black students, black women to be specific, talking/being disruptive - even when they’re not! Social minorities get less grace. Even on “the left”, Platner and Fetterman got more grace than any woman or nonwhite would

One of my half-joking crank theories/fears is that politics really *can* roughly be approximated as a right-left spectrum along which the population is evenly or at least bimodally distributed, and prior electoral consensuses were in part the result of simple informational inefficiencies.

Cranks realigned all to the GOP. They’re like the barbarian hordes beyond the imperial borders. When divided, they’re a nuisance. When a unifying Khan arrives they’re a civilization destroying force. Thank God JD Vance is not Khan material. RFK had that potential but he’s tied to this sinking ship

Maybe I’m misreading but I interpreted the scene with the phone call at the office as her being overwhelmed by experiencing “feelings” for the first time. It’s also heavily implied she shot that dog. I thought her somewhere on the spectrum for anti social personality disorders. Perhaps I’m tripping

I got a temporary legal job because I lucked into it. I applied at the right time and the employer had extenuating circumstances that meant they needed someone right away. Every interview before was a total dead end, if I even got one

We saw like 10ish point swings in Trump Double Digit states from 2016-2018. And now he doesn’t have economic approvals and his base is less enthusiastic. I share your instincts but the math isn’t absurd

6 year itch only it feels like 10. Trump really got a second chance with both the public and elite. He had cultural acceptance and minimal checks on his power at the start of this term. And now he lost the positive economic approvals that buttressed him since 2017.

The rules are different for women. People in general are less likely to see sadism from them as righteous or earned. It’s like how only the left are called “scolds”. Gender (TM) just gives the broad lib-left an air of illegitimacy. People have to make an active effort to get over that hangup

White nationalism has always been one of the supporting pillars of the GOP. Pence-ish religious conservatism lost a lot of purchase. 2012 proved there is no electoral audience for Reaganomics. (Trump still cuts taxes but half his voters want Peronism) White nationalism is all they got left.
