My hands hurt so badly from using these old ass wire cutters with handles that are coming loose and I need to re-re-reconfigure things slightly but...... My BIRD is coming together and I am finding a love of making cable puppets

I got a pretty embroidered leash label for Chili I didn't want to go with ANXIOUS or NERVOUS since I feel like people may associate that with a violently reactive animal, which he is not. Plus I WANT him to build his confidence in public so slow exposure with gentle pets and treats is the way to go

Franklin Falls! It's wild that this place is just nestled between two directions of an interstate up on stilts. Poor Chili wasn't fond of the roaring trucks overhead nor the waterfall itself.

The scenery up through the Old Blewett Highway isn't quite as breathtaking as Stevens Pass but it is still a GORGEOUS drive. We also saw three elk, including one bull with some of the biggest antlers I've ever seen on an elk. You get more wildlife on the back roads and not a single other car! :D

After river time we headed up to Blewett Pass to visit the historic townsite, hunt for leaf fossils, and so I could confirm my (minor) childhood traumas. 25 years had done a number on the trail, which was half washed out, and the mine entrance was partly buried.

After a quick dinner (we forgot to eat lunch oops) we nipped down to Waterfront Park to poke around and look at pretty rocks before dark. Chili and I saw our first skunk! That is the first wild animal he has ever shown interest in while on leash away from home. We went back to river today too :>

After the history hike, we bopped along Hwy 2 and stopped at some neat little places outside Leavenworth. The Alps Fudge/Candy was great even if Chili didn't care for being left in the car with strangers and a highway nearby. Tumwater Canyon Bridge was so pretty ;w; He liked the hotel room at least!

Trip thread! Started off driving Steven's Pass which is about the prettiest mountain pass I've ever seen. We did some easy history hikes to points of interest around Wellington, saw a ptarmigan, and learned Chili is afraid of waterfalls.

cw trypophobia I hate this hate this so much esp bc i myself am somewhat trypophobic. It's apparently a weird type of eczema that results in these pitted blisters and dry flaky skin I'm trying so hard to let it heal and maybe it'll go away but it just keeps doing this shit augh it's been MONTHS

Rockhounding on your own property is dangerous for the same reasons it's great: no collection limits, all legal, no daylight hour restrictions, no hike home so you can bring anything you can carry :)

Realistically I think the enclosure just smelled a little different with his stuff cleaned alongside fresh bedding and cardboard tubes. But give that he still usually tries to hurry away from my hand even going into the kritter keeper, maybe this is SLIGHTLY more trust gained. But.. Shed! :D

Tank cleaning day for Tyl today! He was of course unhappy, but when I held him for a little bit before putting him back, he actually stayed curled in my hand since I kept him sheltered and safe enough. When I set him back down, he stayed in my hand for a little bit before slowly leaving ;w;

While I was checking on it, it was looking around and seemed rather alert for a supposedly dazed bird. I was hoping the red wasn't blood. Then it pooped purple on my arm and confirmed that it's been eating SO MANY BERRIES

I had tried to let the bird hop down from my arm but instead it really wanted to stay perched. Even at this angle it was increasingly alert and stable. This photo was taken mid-poop

After pooping on me (purple on the right of frame) the bird started to hop back up my arm. Seeming to feel much better. No squinting or wobbling

And then it climbed higher still, stopping briefly at my elbow before taking off and flying away into the woods 💜

Got a text about an "injured or stunned bird" today, went to investigate. They'd moved it via box but I wanted to get it into some proper shade. I tried to gently scoop it and instead it perched on my arm and stayed there
