Its not about taking away their 'escape' during their free time. It's about not having access to phones during class time. There isn't a situation where a smartphone is required during lesson time.

Correct. That was exactly my point.

I certainly agree that social media is an anger farm. Devices and apps are designed to be addictive and nurture won't be sufficient to counter that I'm afraid.

Unfortunately the way around is easy: 1) VPN to a country that doesn't have age verification checks. 2) Access content. TOR browser will get around this too so potentially use that, the VPN or both.

No worries. It depends on how the verification process works. If it's using something akin to SAML based then all it's doing is verifying with the service provider, and that's OK. If they keep the ID data, don't hash or encrypt it or both, then that is a big problem.

Meta and Instagram checks are not quite so strong. It's what allows Meta to monetise as they sell that data on. It's fundamentally what the T&Cs state. If a sign up turns out to be underage, Meta still gets to profit and it's the signee at fault. Meta has lobbied against age verification for years.

It is a genuine problem. It should have been done years ago.

Apparently he won't hold in person surgeries because he thinks his constituents will knife him. I'm adding sneering coward to your list!

Yeah I get the sense that Labour and the Unions are quite distant now.

Apologises it was the word 'Peace', was 20 odd years ago so you'll have to forgive my memory. www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/comed... This is what I've found at short notice, hope it helps?

You are right he is not the party, but he would just be replaced with another like him unfortunately.

Labour hasn't been to the left of UK politics since they convinced themselves with the Blair election victories that they need to position more centre right to win elections. I think their assessment is wrong but Labour and the country are stuck with it.

This isn't anything new. During the Iraq war protesters were arrested for have the word 'Protest' on a cake around Westminster.

Yeah I hear you. Worth protecting that little bits that left. Wonder where the data sovereignty will be too. Also thanks for the response, you're the first that replied without going into full meltdown today. The UKPolitics feed seems to have a lot of toxicity.

Its a matter of perspective. Helps if you - and this thread - provided more context.

Your point?

That's a fair enough observation. I don't post as it's not my thing. Had a pile on from I guess rando anon male accounts yesterday, blocked them. I know you think I'm a dick, not looking to change that but not everyone you, or your friend snarl at is the enemy.

Not sure what Idd means, so you'll have to forgive me there. I'm of a similar age/vintage to yourself but not quite down with all the shorthand. I do find it more curious that people do the very things they complain about in others. Typically human it seems.

Err we used to process applications in other countries. It's why consulate embassies exist. Easy to forget in a blood rage I suppose.

Funny, you were the one complaining about patronising behaviour. And here we are.

The electorate are the problem....inclusive of all, not just disabled people. It was you that decided it only pertained to disabled people. Please explain the simplicity to me. Im obviously not getting it.

True. Scotland was a minor nation lacking clout and means to forge it's own independent future. The loss of the American colony did hit Scotland hard and certainly influenced direction and thinking.

Sorry, wasn't meant to be patronising. Its something I picked up living up in Yorkshire for a decade. Provincial term. But to clarify, are you suggesting the entire electorate is disabled? Or why did you think I was referring to a specific part of the population with a generic term?

Its a wrong view and one you've decided upon through your own defensiveness. On you, not me lass.

Davey @gezd.bsky.social · 12/07/2025
But it was you that brought it up. Unless you are stating that the entire electorate is disabled? Its an opinion, I guess.

Davey @gezd.bsky.social · 12/07/2025
Disabled people are part of the electorate. Why did you go there? Or you using disabled people as a moral shield for your own flakey opinion?

He hadn't changed since he tied Labour in knots with their position during the Brexit campaign. So why are people now incensed with him? Only shows how late they are to the party.

What? Whose mentioned disabled people besides you?

Not be worse in what sense? If Labour are 'worse' now than the Tories then that speaks to the quality of the electorate more than it does to the quality of the political parties, one does impact the other.

It wasn't one sided. The failed colony tipped the hand of the 'corrupt' politicians as the colony failure showed that Scotland didn't have the resources, logistics or power to support a colony of its own or project power on a global stage.

I think what's irritating from Scotland's standpoint is that Scotland joined the Union through its own choice. In my opinion Scotland then should have the right to leave the Union at any point it chooses and that should be a decision for Scotland and not Westminster.

Yeah your country deserves independence along with safety and prosperity. It's a travesty the rest of the world lack the honesty, compassion and bravery to accomplish that. Appreciate the response.

What do you expect from an electorate that persistently vote right leaning parties and against changing the existing FPTP system.

Of that I'm sure, hence all the shouting into the void.
