This is a terrible camera angle for Champions League final. Ally, can go into FIFA settings and change to “Tele Broadcast”?

Hard agree @samuelwroberts.bsky.social on Dragonsatea Din Tei. I was a bit older but that is such an evocative song, still occasionally stick it on to relive that summer at the Portugal Euros.

We've built an indie game showcase, and we're telling you: You don't have to watch on our channel. Go to theirs! @dexbonus.co.uk and @jessecox.bsky.social are back to host the fourth Convergence Games Showcase. Go be in their chat on 16th July for tons of indie game trailers and live gameplay.

Happy 100th birthday to Sir David Attenborough. Had the pleasure of presenting him with an Outstanding Contribution to Technology award many moons ago at T3, got to witness him filming first-hand at Kew Gardens, and stole an interview in the back of his golf cart. A legend then and now

The placement was funny. That’s all

Matt Hill @gethill.bsky.social · 07/05/2026
Yes they do. Tbh I accept the trade off of ads generally, it’s part of a wider package, I don’t just sub for the films. And I have 2001 on Blu-ray if I want to watch it properly. The placement just made me laugh

And I watched Gremlins for years with a lump missing due to said distraction on the pausing by someone (wasn’t me!) I always wondered why there was suddenly loads of them then saw the full version and was like “ah swimming pool!”

You better believe I was squeezing four films on there! Think I had Schwarzenegger’s entire catalogue at the time on 3 videos

I have it on Blu-ray. I just put it in as I was browsing and it made me laugh

Agree, I’m ok with ads, it’s all the timing

Used to be an art to it. I very warmly remember many of my taped off TV VHSs of films where I’d conscientiously paused and unpaused the ad breaks out. Or sometimes when they were still in (it’s on late!) and the era-specific ads added something. Ads can be fine in films. Just maybe not quite here

Matt Hill @gethill.bsky.social · 06/05/2026
Well that’s not the main aim, for sure. Having the films is part of a package that includes other things. I’m certainly not paying them more to not have them. I have 2001 on Blu-ray, I just put it on Prime as was poodling about. It was the particular placement of the ad that got me
010
Matt Hill @gethill.bsky.social · 06/05/2026
Very good
010
Matt Hill @gethill.bsky.social · 06/05/2026
There are now multiple paid tiers. Basic tier you get ads. Pay more to remove the ads.

Matt Hill @gethill.bsky.social · 06/05/2026
Yeah it’s a very good episode and like so much of Black Mirror, it’s all coming true quicker than we thought
010
Matt Hill @gethill.bsky.social · 06/05/2026
It’s the placement of the ad that tickled me. I expected ads as I’m on an ad-supported tier

Matt Hill @gethill.bsky.social · 06/05/2026
I can’t stop laughing
010
Matt Hill @gethill.bsky.social · 06/05/2026
I mean, I am on the ad supported tier but they could have picked a better placement, for sure. But then no one’s looking at the films thinking when would make a good ad break
010
Matt Hill @gethill.bsky.social · 06/05/2026
Yeah I know but I already pay them more than I should. I tolerate ads generally but it was the placement of the ad that tickled me
110
Matt Hill @gethill.bsky.social · 06/05/2026
The ad changes every time so you may get lucky. I had Bold laundry detergent first time out
110
Matt Hill @gethill.bsky.social · 06/05/2026
I mean, I could get behind that. At least it would someone was actually paying attention

Matt Hill @gethill.bsky.social · 06/05/2026
🤣

Matt Hill @gethill.bsky.social · 06/05/2026
I mean in this particular case it’s the placement, breaking one of the best edits of all time. Clearly done algorithmically on running time with no context. On TV, ads are part of the format so the shows build into/cliffhang the breaks so it doesn’t feel incongruous
210
Matt Hill @gethill.bsky.social · 06/05/2026
It’s hard coded in. I originally got Bold, couldn’t believe it, so went back and the ad changed but the placement didn’t
000
Matt Hill @gethill.bsky.social · 06/05/2026
First time I watched it it was Bold, so you may get lucky
000
Matt Hill @gethill.bsky.social · 06/05/2026
It’s hard baked in too. I went back as I couldn’t believe it and it was a different ad, exactly same place.

Prime with ads. Just how Kubrick intended.

I find this endlessly fascinating how it differs. In ours, green box is glass, cans and plastic, black box is card and paper, brown is garden waste, green caddy is food, black is everything else. But colours aside, I know people who have either two or even just one. How is this not standardised?

Matt Hill @gethill.bsky.social · 18/01/2026
You have to have seen the first 28 Years Later for this one to really make sense, and that was only 6 months ago. That wasn’t the case with the first. So if you factor in the narrower audience, the fact some people didn’t like that one means you’ll inevitably get a smaller return no?

Matt Hill @gethill.bsky.social · 29/11/2025
Get the fuck out of here! (Etc etc.) But yes music is quite astonishing now for swearing. Long gone are the days of having to listen to RATM for your F words, it’s in the most basic pop ditties

Lethal Weapon was actually the first 18 I ever saw, round a mate of my dad’s. Not traumatised

I remember seeing the original version of Beverly Hills Cop years after I’d regularly been watching a taped-off-TV dub and I was astounded by the swearing

I didn’t realise it was unusual till a chat with my wife flagged that it very much was. Seemed to make sense to me. Also random Harrow only bubble: no sixth forms, colleges were all tertiary. Pros and cons to that one

@samuelwroberts.bsky.social Just catching up on your Bully episode, really good, very fond memories of that game. But random memory based on your “why are year 7s & year 11s in the same school” point. I grew up in Harrow & year 7 was in primary school. We started high school in year 8. No idea why

Those two and the OG above are unbelievable. While Origin of Symmetry’s first half is pretty flawless, think this is the best overall album they’ve done

Matt Hill @gethill.bsky.social · 17/05/2025
Oh I meant the album. I Want You Like an Accident is ace particularly. But yes as a massive dEUS fan, i can see that you’re tight. Not convinced I’d “found” dEUS at that point

I guess it’s focusing on the best. I have fond memories of that horse demo where it just didn’t work, though. That and Star Wars Kinect, peak Kinect frippery
