Seen at @Euruko, really proud of our 2026 Gem Fellows. 2027 is coming soon!

It kills me that Amtrak can't provide a usable train from Portland to San Francisco, it takes 18 hours to go 600 miles. The same trip by car takes 10 and jet ~2. 🚫🚅

Considering how big each company is, it’s incredible to me that neither Stripe nor Gusto have a native iPad app. This UX is awful.

I recently cut my first Gem Fellowship check to @jaredwhite from the @bridgetown project. He’s in Portland too so we got a pic. Congrats Jared! gem.coop/updates/2026-fellowship

Hello, my fellow nerds! @sidekiq 8.1.2, Sidekiq Pro 8.1.1 and Sidekiq Enterprise 8.1.1 are now available. The major change is the new `kiq` terminal UI now available. Upgrade and try `bundle exec kiq` to see it in action!

@kerrick (I can't post a picture in sr.ht) I'm finding my table contents show a "tear", likely due to inline emoji. Notice the black space and unaligned "Start" column. Any idea how to fix? Code here: github.com/sidekiq/sidekiq/blob/08c…

Implemented vim navigation keys and multi-row selection in the @sidekiq TUI. So neat to quickly select a bunch of rows with "jxjxjxjxjx" Still tons of work if you're interested in working with Ratatui. The entire TUI is in this file: github.com/sidekiq/sidekiq/blob/mai…

@jaredwhite I noticed that Markdown headers get a fragment ID on their anchor, but the page does not display a widget link like in GitHub. Is there a way to enable this, so we can easily grab a direct link to the section?

It's really cool to fire this up text UI in < 1 sec instead of needing a browser and app server. I can see that accessibility is a real problem with TUIs though. Thanks to Saidbek! github.com/sidekiq/sidekiq/pull/6902

Been playing with TUI libraries recently. Charm didn't work for me (the Go dep makes it flaky for many) but I have Ratatui_ruby (which uses ratatui.rs) running live now! sr.ht/~kerrick/ratatui_ruby

@rmondello it drives me crazy that I can’t use the password manager to fill in this password when auth’ing my Apple ID. Why is that? Circular dependency?

I have 25 Principles hanging in my bathroom to remind me to act like an adult, it mostly works.

25 Principles of Adult Behavior. Be patient. No matter what. Don't badmouth: Assign responsibility, not blame. Say nothing of another you wouldn't say to him. Never assume the motives of others are, to them, less noble than yours are to you. Expand your sense of the possible. Don't trouble yourself with matters you truly cannot change.
Expect no more of anyone than you can deliver yourself. Tolerate ambiguity.
Laugh at yourself frequently. Concern yourself with what is right rather than who is right. Never forget that, no matter how certain, you might be wrong. Give up blood sports. Remember that your life belongs to others as well. Don't risk it frivolously. Never lie to anyone for any reason. Learn the needs of those around you and respect them. Avoid the pursuit of happiness. Seek to define your mission and pursue that. Reduce your use of the first personal pronoun. Praise at least as often as you disparage. Admit your errors freely and soon. Become less suspicious of joy. Understand humility.
Remember that love forgives everything.
Foster dignity. Live memorably. Love vourself. Endure. lohn Barlow 1977

Finally got host monitoring and alerts working. There's no dumber devops fail than running out of disk without warning. Shout out to DigitalOcean, their droplet monitoring is exactly what I needed. Datadog is about 1000x more complex. (My servers use very little CPU so 50% is pretty low)
