How effective and safe are measles vaccines? In a new chart & article, I summarize the findings of a Cochrane meta-analysis on measles vaccination. 🧵

A data visualization presents findings on the effect of measles vaccination on the risk of getting sick or experiencing side effects. The chart features two main sections: "Risk ratio" and "Odds ratio," with each line indicating outcomes after vaccination or placebo.

The first row highlights that one dose of the vaccine lowers the risk of measles by 95% (or 20 times), while two doses further decrease the risk by 25 times. The subsequent rows detail potential side effects and conditions associated with the vaccine, such as:

- Ulcerative colitis
- Multiple sclerosis
- Inflammatory bowel disease
- ITP (low blood platelets)
- Crohn's disease
- Meningitis
- Acute leukemia
- Type 1 diabetes

Some outcomes, like seizures, show a slight increase in occurrence but are typically brief and non-harmful. Now available: The 2022 Global MNC Tax Complexity Survey data from TRR 266 researchers Simon Harst, Felix Siegel, Deborah Schanz and Caren Sureth-Sloane reveal a sustained high level of tax complexity. Again, their data illustrate transfer pricing rules as the most complex tax regulation.
