I do understand that they don’t. I’m disputing the idea that they don’t because they have a lot going on. It will be very hard to “rebuild our entire society” in a way that looks better than what existed before it if so many people don’t give a shit. Getting them to care is important in that effort.

It isn’t an excuse. It isn’t the case that some people have the time to care about who runs the government while others don’t. People who care and people who don’t care both have a lot going on. It’s just that a lot of people don’t give a shit, and we should be curious about why they don’t.
