Can you find the words ‘Moroccan’ and ‘Iranian’ on the chart, child? MENA= Middle East, North African. Good grief!

Here you go. Ashkenazis are 53-67% European, about ⅔ of the European genome being southern European and coming in before the genetic bottleneck, which was probably medieval. Medieval, by the way, means after the fall of Rome, and before the renaissance. SMH. journals.plos.org/plosgenetics...

Well, half their DNA can be traced. More for Menahis, and far less for Ashkenazis. Yeah, you’re the kind of dick who reads something one time, and assumes the person who led you to it didn’t read it. Wait until you find out about the medieval bottleneck.

If we had DNA from that common ancestor, we could certainly establish descent from it.

No, we’re not. We have a common ancestor. Read a fricking book.

If you can't decide which Hebrew word it derives from, and there was a whole family of related Semitic languages at the time, it doesn't prove much, does it? And yes, English is my native language. Logic is not yours.

Here's a comparison of various groups' descent from Bronze Age DNA recovered from the Levant (Megiddo). I'd rub it in about the European contribution to Ashkenazi DNA, but it's actually a fairly low estimate. Palestinians are overwhelmingly descended from Palestinians 3000 years ago.

Gerard Harbison @gerardharbison.bsky.social · 8h
The thing I was amused by is your bifurcated etymology. 'Omri' is derived from this word in Hebrew. Or maybe it's this other word in Hebrew. But it's definitely Hebrew!

As I would expect, you don't care about the Palestinian identity. The 'Jewish identity' does include millennia spent on another continent, yes?

You said they were 'mutually contradictory'. You don't have to contradict them. You need to show how they contradict each other. To get started, this is the definitive study of ancient DNA in the Bronze and early Iron Age Levant. pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC...

What this comes down to is what Judaism because separate from Canaanite syncretism. I think a minimal start point might be adoption of monotheism, and adoption of the Torah as an origin myth and religious canon. Most scholars date that to the return from Babylon.

Gerard Harbison @gerardharbison.bsky.social · 11h
The Elephantine colony, which left the Levant in the 7th century BCE, were not monotheistic. And there are lots of Asherah figurines from Judaea from about the same time. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Judean_...

Hang on, you said they were contradictory, but you don't know what they are? LOL. "The name "Omri" itself is puzzling to scholars. Its etymology is uncertain, and theories have proposed an origin in several Semitic languages." Better fix that wiki page!
100
Gerard Harbison @gerardharbison.bsky.social · 12h
Really. Cite two population genetic studies of the Levant that contradict each other. And it doesn’t change the fact the stele you cite refers to Omri, as determined a polytheist as there ever was.

Gerard Harbison @gerardharbison.bsky.social · 12h
Ah yes, Omriide Israel, where polytheism was not just practiced but legally protected. Sure, date it back as long as you like. After all, Ethiopia is my homeland.
