Any coffee peeps know anything about this NZ portable coffee machine? baristabrew.co.nz/products/sel... I used one of these things years ago but like the idea of portable road trip coffee!

My road bike is sitting up the garage roof space, too. That said, I'm not a lycra rider anymore these days: It's mountain biking with a relaxed fit!

Reminds me of my days when I was younger, and fitter, and I had time to ride for hours on weekends!

Surprise birthday gift from my adult daughter who has just returned from Europe, including a trip to Edinburgh, Paisley and Glasgow - and a visit to the family castle in Inveraray!

Nice surprise birthday gift from my wife yesterday (I was honestly expecting the Schumacher Ferrari Icons set). Looking forward to building this beauty.

Trying to find the motor and hub for the Lego Christmas train set in Australasia is like, well, find a proverbial needle in a haystack. Official Lego stores are "out of stock", which isn't helpful.

Yesterday, I bought an awesome naked portafilter from Barista Brew in Auckland as I thought I'd lost my original Breville portafilter. Today, I picked up my serviced machine (which weighs a tonne) & guess what was sitting in the machine? My original portafilter. Oh, well, now, I have two.

I took my coffee machine in for a service last Friday. Took the portafilter, too, just in case they, you know, needed it. They told me they didn't so it with me. A week on, I have got no idea where I have put the portafilter. It's not where it should be. Welcome to my world.

My mother send a package (via mail) from Nelson to Auckland on 28 August. It still hasn't arrived yet. According to the tracking it's been sitting at a postal centre in Mt Roskill since 2 September. I would have got it quicker if I'd actually flown to Nelson myself to pick it up.

I've just inherited my father's Canon EOS 1000D camera & lenses (he is no longer able to use it). It's an older camera but I'm extremely keen to see what I can do with it.

@ryan.crawcour.social I'm the same. Prices are insane. I was in Nelson visiting my parents & my father has several vinyls I'd love to get my hands on from when he moved to NZ (Queen etc). I'm planting the inheritance seeds now.

That price doesn't seem too bad, considering a dealer in Oz has the same hypesticker version it for about $NZ125 including shipping. I still have some pounds/euro on my wise card, a son living in London & a daughter going there on holiday next month!

Vinyl enthusiasts, anyone know where I can get a decently priced vinyl copy of Blur's Best of? It seems pretty rare as hen's teeth.

@delphijunkie.bsky.social Looks like the TVNZ+ update was a balls up all round. Too bad if you have a 10 year old Samsung TV. www.rnz.co.nz/news/media-t...

Issues with update to TVNZ+ platform cuts access for thousands of customers
The update will allow the broadcaster to charge for sports events, but has caused issues with streaming on some televisions.

Yep, had the same problem tonight. Took turning the TV off, deleting and reinstalling the app and then resigning in to get it working. No a great experience.

I think if you want rodents for dinner you're best to head to Countdown/Woolworths in Dunedin, I think. They had quite a few about the place a while ago.

RNZ reported today that a person had died after a "car plunged into a tree". Strangest use of the word plunge that I have ever seen as it's normally associated with water or liquid.

In hindsight a good thing. We're going to get our travel agent to start the refund process with the original airline today. We'll lose a little bit of money as new fares were dearer but it is what it is.

Gerard Campbell @gerardfcampbell.bsky.social · 31/03/2026
We've had to do the same thing as were flying through Dubai at end of the month. Now flying via HK with Cathay Pacific, although now direct flight to London. Back from Barcelona>HK>SYD>AUK

Just had to fork out money to change flights to London. Had to dip into savings. Originally going through Dubai with Emirates but now going through Hong Kong with Cathay Pacific. Finger's crossed for a refund next month - and that NZ doesn't self-implode under this govt before we get back mid-June.

Tasman Fuels near us had 91 for $3.02 a litre but got there, waited, only to find a tiny A4 sheet on the pumps saying "Sorry, out of 91". Next cheapest was $3.19 at Gull. Will be working from home a bit more, given wife won't let me bike to work as apparently Auckland traffic is too bad.
011
Gerard Campbell @gerardfcampbell.bsky.social · 13/03/2026
Sorry, correction: Our flights are refundable but they're not for six weeks so the airline hasn't even considered flexibility with them at the moment. Guess we just wait for a bit longer.

Gerard Campbell @gerardfcampbell.bsky.social · 13/03/2026
Yeah, none cover acts of war at all, and many don't even provide insurance to UAE now. Wife says we should cancel tickets and change flights but apparently they're non-refundable unless the airline cancels them. We're kinda in limbo at the moment.
001
Gerard Campbell @gerardfcampbell.bsky.social · 12/03/2026
None of them do now, believe me, I've been looking. Southern Cross won't even insure for UAE at the moment. We're flying Emirates, hence going through Dubai, but I am getting pretty stressed as this trip has cost a small fortune in savings.

NZ peeps, recommendations for travel insurance (must include, sigh, Dubai at this stage as flights at end of April still going). Yes, yes, I know the price will go up when I add my wife's diabetes but looking for recommendations. Thanks!

Gerard Campbell @gerardfcampbell.bsky.social · 12/03/2026
We supposed to be laying over in Dubai for two nights when we fly out on 25 April. Finger's crossed - and still haven't sorted travel insurance out yet! Have approach agents and they said sit tight at the moment.

Friends, recommendations for travel insurers for a seven week European trip in May/June? Prices so far are ranging from $694 (1 Cover) up to $1200 (AA, I think) but keen to get recommendations, especially in these uncertain times (thanks Trump). Thanks in advance.

I also like that ASB now have an option via the mobile app for when you go overseas that you can list all the countries your visiting so that your CC doesn't get blocked as suspicious when you use it. That will come in handy come April.

Hey, @tvnz.bsky.social how come last night's (21/01/26) episode of TM Champion of Champions isn't on demand? I had to work last night & planned to watch it tonight but the only one that is available is from June last year! What gives?

To be fair, EB lost it's way years ago as soon as digital purchases became more popular. It also ripped you off when you traded games in, selling them for much higher than it bought them off you. Still, sad for employees.
