A vital site of remembrance in Liepāja is preserved. Today, the restored Holocaust memorial at Līvas Cemetery was unveiled. It is dedicated to the memory of the "Riga Group": ~230 Jews from 🇩🇪,🇨🇿 & 🇭🇺 deported to Latvia, who survived Riga Ghetto & KZ Kaiserwald before being sent to Liepāja.

Today would have been Marģers Vestermanis' birthday. We miss him dearly. He was so important for the remembrance of the history of the Holocaust in Latvia, so important for Jewish life here. For many people in Latvia and Germany, he was and remains a source of inspiration and courage.

Sirsnīgi sveicieni svētkos! The full reinstatement of the 🇱🇻 constitution of 1922 marked the final step in the restoration of 🇱🇻independence 35 years ago. The Satversme is another element linking 🇱🇻 & 🇩🇪 – as it was partially inspired by the Weimar constitution of 1919.

Sixty-five years ago, the construction of the Berlin Wall began. Twenty-eight years of division, a 155 km border, and hundreds of victims of the GDR border regime. Over the years, the Wall divided not only Berlin but the entire country, until reunification became possible in 1989.
