No idea so I looked it up - apparently from the Ancient Greek for dolphin due to the shape of the unopened flower buds. They do sort of look like leaping dolphins, round dolphins admittedly.

Autumn crocuses are up, although not actually crocuses but Colchicums. Also called meadow saffron but they're not what you get saffron from and are in fact toxic. Alternatively known as naked ladies as they're without leaves at time of flowering. Lovely whatever you call them! #flowers

I got a bit obsessed with taking pictures of the most recent full moon - looking back over them I'm impressed by the variety. Moon 26th, 28th, 29th and 31st July 2026
